Sat at mercury in seabird, just read this post and has made me very sad, there's a couple of people pride a joys destroyed, I used to use prop sheid and have done exactly the same heating in a pan of water on the stove, fortunately not forgotten it but so easily done. I can just imagine this sort of job being one if the last for the boat owner before relaunch. So sad, and chap must have had a go putting it out and now has burns. I hope he is ok, I hope his insurance plays ball and everyone gets on the water this season.

I'm currently in Harrogate , but just had a pic of two boats on fire in swanwick marina, both out the water by the road in area east end near to the ship pub.

Bilge keel yacht calle leila and I think from memory a sealine s28 which according to a friend is well alight.

Any further info? Just glad it's not on the pontoons especially D !!!

Slightly off topic, but what are you doing up here ?!
There's no water in Harrogate !

The yacht looks like a Sirius - lovely boats.

Both are a write off for sure. But no-one badly hurt and after all the boats are just things - they can be replaced
I've admired those Sirius at the boat show a few times. Stunning and very clever design. You pay a price, though!

Very sad to see this, especially just as the season's about to start, but at least no one was seriously hurt.

Some pix of the full extent of the damage to the S28 internally.

So sorry for both owners. Just glad that nobody was seriously damaged...We are ALL just big kids with different tastes in toys that make a life as a worker drone "worth the effort".. I do know what and how I would feel if my S24 was "taken away"...So, as one big kid to another, sorry for the loss of both those "toys"............

Layla is aSirius and top of the range. She was opposite us on E pontoon. The makers used her as the show boat at SIBs and she has everything, carbon mast, drop down thruster. We're out of the water near her at the moment so will be calling the marina very shortly to check all is OK

Very sorry to see this

I'm sure some idiot will be along in a minute to tell us that nobody should be feeling sad, as it's "just a boat" :(
If it was mine, I would be very upset.

Horrible pictures for both boats - just shown them to the wife and she said 'its just a boat, nobody has died' - we are now not speaking! (which is handy as Top Gear is on in half an hour!!)

I feel sorry for the bloke that has caused this, he must feel terrible - however if he/she had done that to my pride and joy I would probably not be so tolerant to their negligence. Insurance cannot replace hours of fettling and hard graft to keep a boat right!

The yacht and Sealine look doomed and wont float again. One observation is the blistering and burning on the S28 - why didnt the hull suffer and only the topsides?

I can only guess that the fire came across from the other boat at deck height, and that the flames didn't manage to jump downwards across the metal hull/deck joint.

When I got the first pic Stuart literally while the fire was burning I can see a hardy in the background, I did wonder if it was yours.

I guess the heat has come from the top looking at the damage to the yacht, but just wondered if the hull and topside are made of different thickness or quality material as there is a very sudden difference to the damage. I'd be devastated if my 28 looked like this though :(

The upper deck section has various bits of wood and lining attached to the inside of the fibreglass, whereas the lower section is just fibreglass. But both are made from fundamentally the same stuff.

Yep - Matt the boat polisher was working on Phoebe when the fire broke out, just a couple of boats away. He says she is fine thank goodness. I really feel for the bloke on Layla, he was extremely boat proud (in a good way) - always working on her

Thanks - close thing. The security tape around the area is fastened to the cradle Phoebe is on - can't get much nearer than that. All the boats in the area including mine will need a very thorough wash down - they are all covered in a coarse dust and fibreglass fibres - fortunately not melted into the gel. Another has gel coat damage, another has cooked fenders and a third has a completely melted jib that looks like a solid lump. Well done to the yard and fire brigade for excellent containment in a very crowded boatyard

Stuart

Glade to hear your Hardy all OK.

Such a shame about the two that were not.

It is official, the S28 has been written off. The owner is gutted, but as I said to him, think of the brokerage fees you have saved! But as we all know, losing/selling a boat you had for a long time and cared for is an emotional experience.

I sincerely hope he gets her true value, its times like this one needs an agreed value insurance

Just been down to Swanwick Marina and I see that the S28 is no longer there....anyone know where she has been moved to? If she has been written-off, then the Sirius 36 will certainly be the same......such a shame for the owners of both boats, but hope they can find replacement boats soon, so that they can, hopefully, enjoy the coming season.
