I'm currently in Harrogate , but just had a pic of two boats on fire in swanwick marina, both out the water by the road in area east end near to the ship pub.

Bilge keel yacht calle leila and I think from memory a sealine s28 which according to a friend is well alight.

Any further info? Just glad it's not on the pontoons especially D !!!

It's ok...I've taken control and managed the situation. Have to say I'm out of puff now running back and forth from the river with my bucket!
On a serious note... the damage to the boat in question is quite horrific. From the look of it, the inside is completely gutted and the smell of melted GRP is quite obvious even from the roadside. There looks to be some not insignificant damage to the mobo behind it too. Damage also to another boats mainsail and the canopy and fender/s of another mobo.
Fortunately, no-one was hurt but the owner had to be helped VERY quickly off his boat as the fire took hold within minutes.
All I can say is, thank goodness the fire services were there within 5 minutes apparently.
The marina staff by all accounts were very quick off the mark to take action.

A bummer for all concerned , I wonder if the interior is ok on the S28 , maybe there`s an S28 out there with knackered engines etc that needs some donor parts !!

Keith, the security guard, told me he had heard the owner of the bilge keeler, Layla, that caught fire, was heating lanolin for his prop on his cabin cooker, but then forgot it, and the lanolin caught fire. Unfortunately, the resultant fire also caused damage to the bow of a Sealine that is located very close to the yacht.

All in all, it was very lucky that the fire was contained quite quickly, as there are lots of boats crammed together in this location.

From what I could see, the cabin and cockpit of the yacht are very badly damaged.

Cheers, Allan

I'm not sure it's an s28.

It is an S28 that belongs to a friend/student of mine. Bad news ad there is damage both outside and in.

To quote :

1. No body was killed
2. The chap that caused it got burned but not bad, I believe.
3. It was the yacht Layla next door and it's utterly gutted. Shame as she was a real stunner.
4. Th quote DL. WAFI using heat close to flammable stuff on a plastic yacht

Serenity only other vessel damaged. It's quite bad as top stbd quarter destroyed from nav light fwd. inside badly damaged. Covers badly damaged. One set fire to throttle quadrant to boot.

Still, daily decisions are easy now....crack on with the house!

Very sad really as just worked hard this last week and she was fully serviced and ready for relaunch. WAFI!!!

Not a happy day at all.
