My TV reception is a bit flakey at times and I'm wondering if there is a preferred aerial - just the basic, am not after a satellite following dome type thingy, any suggestions?

Phil, I used to have a Status on my old Sunline. Worked great. We have a Glomex on our Azi, and it is not so good. In some cases, you will only get a decent reception from a Sat receiver. In reality, if you have 4G you are better off with an iPad, Apple TV or Amazon equivalent.
How are your windows?

You have not said if its got any of these or similiar ?

Reason I ask ,we had a similiar issue and fitted the supplemental ( metal 6 way splitter and signal amp ) a short distance from the ariel as the lead entered the boat .We also have a standard Glomex amp near the telly .
Also re check all conections esp any outside -corossion issues will weaken the signal .
Gaudienne in SoF sent a "telly + electronic s" man after I reported TV difficulties --- that's how he fixed it € 40 + part

Thanks both, I do have a Glomex amp, the contacts throughout seem good... am starting to feel that switching to a 4G option might be better all round, but will see if I can't tweak the set up I have - it works sometimes, then nothing at others?

Hi Rafiki, windows are working - they are pretty swift! might have to tighten the window gap to slow them down! :)

You are at Cobbs Quay aren't you?

We have moved from A pontoon to B and now C over the last 3 years and digital TV reception is very much pot luck - we got great reception on A (about 1/3 along pontoon), nothing on B (about 1/2 way along) and now good reception on C (about 1/2 way along). We don't have a radar arch (so no fixed tv aerial) so when we want to use the TV, the previous owner has kindly run a TV socket extension from back of TV up to the cockpit so we plug in a basic amplified aerial and put it on the dash.

This set up must be way less powerful than a permanent powered glomex set-up - maybe worth buying a cheap amplified aerial and plugging in to the TV - if this gets a signal OK and your glomex doesn't then you must have an issue in the connections, etc?

that's interesting Dan, yes, am at the end of D... am going down later and will have a check, hadn't thought of doing a simple check with a simple aerial, will do that too.

Hi Phil,

We are on D and get a reasonable signal with Glomex. I also have a spare portable booster aerial which you are welcome to try if you like. We will be down later so give me a shout if you want to compare. Boat is Wandering Star II.

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, that's very kind, i've just got back home & hadn't looked at the forum whilst onboard... just had to go and check my lines and fenders in preperation for this evening's wild winds! I wound up the Glomex a few notches and got a few channels, so perhaps that was set a little low... I'll keep experimenting, and yes please, if you're onboard next time I trot down D then I'll say hello and perhaps borrow that portable aerial for a quick test. Are you down for the weekend?
Phil
