Tsunamis - what about us

We hear that a warning system is to be set up in the indian ocean like the one in the pacific. AFIK there isn't one for the atlantic but given that there is plenty of volcanic activity in the middle of the north atlantic, shouldn't we be demanding one too?

Disagree, a Tsunami devastated Brighton last year when PaulineB took a dip! Now what kind of early system do we need to put in place to alert us to large amounts of water displaced by large amounts of wummin?

If I were you I'd move slowly and quietly and avoid earth moving events, I was under the impression that NZ being on the edge of a plate was markedly impernament in geological terms?

Yes is a bit shaky down here WeeJimi.

We live by the sea but I understand the bit we are on is going up - might just be some myth to keep property values up or something though cos only about 50 miles away it is going down.

And Bergman all the poor sheepies have had a bad time this year getting drowned with floods and are all a bit damp and smelly for any hanky panky. It continues into the summer as we had 4 inches of rain the other night (6 inches in 24 hours) and is pouring with rain/blowing a gale again today. We were hoping to get away on the boat for a few weeks late next week /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.

Us too.. but I'm already 600 + feet above sea level... apparently there have been Tsunamis on the East Coast of Scotland caused by landslides in Norwegian Fjords.. bit like the Canaries Volcanoe.. But it'll take less than an hour to get to us.. so I just hope I'm home and not at work in Inverness!
