Like many older boats - the press stud fittings lose the stud and then you are left with small base plate only. Its time I replaced mine and I cannot find them online ... maybe they are called something else now ?

Here's the base stud fitting :

and the typical you see once the stud breaks out :

Sorry about the fuzzy photos but I think you can see what I'm looking for.

Anyone know product name I can use for eBay or whatever ... or a link to them ?

Mine are the small 25mm overall long base ... 8mm stud ....

Thanks ... that gave me a product name and search brought up various other sites as well ...

I would have bought from JClarke ... but the hole centres were further apart being a solid machined stud base. Looking at another site - they had exactly my fittings as the guy who originally fitted my hood used the 'pressed' version - no wonder the studs fall out ! But I've bought a pack so I can replace as they go !!

Machined all seems to run out at about 3.60 Euros a piece ... pressed at 1.10 euros a piece ... killer of course is the post to EU !!

Lift the dot fasteners, horrible things, dont put them anywhere near where you might fall or kneel on them. I know this from bitter experience, one went in under my knee cap & ripped my leg open, deck covered in blood. A week later i took them all off & threw them in the bin where they belong. They were replaced with Perfix fasteners, far safer, nothing to catch or hurt you & just as secure.

I can imagine ... its like Lego on the floor only more pointy !

Mine are only for the sprayhood and I don't use boat without the hood - so the studs are never a problem.

Perfix ... have to look at those out of interest.

Edit : mmm look good.

From a practical view are they any better than a dot fastener?

I have narrow side decks and those lift the dot fasteners on the sprayhood have already drawn blood several times. I have been looking for an alternative and those Perfix fasteners look ideal - thank you for the recommendation.

A boat I went on many years ago as a kid ... I can remember the sprayhood was fed into runners ... similar to a sail .... must have been a right ***** if you ever wanted to replace it ...
I had a new spray hood made for my last yacht on the Clyde, the front of the hood had a bolt rope which slid into a track on the coach roof. Brilliant! No draughts or leaking water and a doddle to remove/replace.

So still around then ... I see often on larger yachts with various awnings etc. but haven't seen a hood with it for quite some time.
