True cost of boating story for MBY

Thanks for all the new offers but I'm afraid the deadline has passed and I already have more than I can fit in the pages available. If it proves popular I may revisit it at a later date. Failing that why not post your own costs here using the same suggested format to keep things comparable. It could prove invaluable for newbies wanting to get a realistic idea of what different boats might cost to run.

As a newbie looking at buying a boat, I think this is a great idea.
Maybe start a new thread for people to put down their running costs etc.

I think if the costs are analysed too closely the costs may easily begin to look unattractive to anyone considering the purchase of their first boat.
Most of us probably enjoy the boating experience in ways that are difficult to measure. For me its not just a matter of cost per each days use.

I think my costs for keeping and running my 33ft boat are something over a basic level of £4k and possibly on average £5k or so per year. This excludes any allowance for depreciation . It also excludes costs that are incurred when changing a boat such as brokerage and surveyors fees. I don't include food and drink in that.
However someone else with the same boat , located somewhere with expensive mooring fees and able to travel further and faster than me could easily spend more than double that .

It is also necessary to be prepared to incur extra costs due to issues that may develop from time to time . We all hope such costs will be rare and will not break the bank.
