Starting to plan next years boating having finally got the business back on track. We would very much like to visit Norwich & explore the broads, but as far as I can gather network rail really don't want this bridge to work. Any inside info ? Surely it would be working by now, it been years.

I dont think it's us going mad!

ha ha ha!

Its not rocket science - or is it?

"They have interrogated the computer program to ascertain what is causing the opening sequence to stop. They have identified within the computer program the approximate location of the cause of failure but further interrogation is required to narrow it down to a single causational point. This is a complex process that will require further test nights. They have already acquired a considerable amount of data that will be analysed in the office to try and locate the root cause."

I wonder if the computer caused problems when the bridge was built?

Jeez, how bloody difficult can it possibly be to open and close a freakin' bridge? :D

One suspects an overengineered solution to a really quite simple problem is the root cause of the issue

Edit: damn damn damn damn damn and blast it, beaten to the punch AGAIN! :)

Like most large companies these days, employees cannot comment directly on public media. Sounds a bit of a cop out I know, but I value my job!!

I can only direct you to Network Rail's help line number - who are pretty efficient at getting information like this back to people. If you don't get a satisfactory answer let me know by pm and I will prod them:)

or the somewhat out of date Wikipedia entry for Trowse Swing Bridge for general info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trowse_Bridge

It is a lot more complicated than a road bridge though! You may also wish to check with Norwich city council regarding their swinging footbridge upstream from Carrow Bridge which has had problems opening recently.
