Troon or Ardrossan?

Of the two, Troon without a doubt. Ardrossan is a good enough marina, but the town is a bit of a dump. Troon marina friendly (I've been there for 10+ years), and the town, though a little walk away is much nicer with more facilities. Ardrossan entry and exit is constrained a bit by ferry traffic. Both can suffer from a bit of a swell in strong winds.

I agree with Ian. I love clyde marina at ardrossan and the Italian place next to it but if its only for a shortish stop then Troon has more to offer landside.

~Ah, a new comer to the inner basin.
I would agree with all you say, good service, friendly staff, nicer place (town) than Ardrossan etc. etc. Also the yard facilities are considered (by many) as being second to none

Neither Campbeltown if waiting for boats to CiC from the South; assume you mean other boats and not crew.

Hangon a mo, am I missing the point here - CiC, 'Commander In Chief' or 'Cruise In Company'? If the Commander in Chief is arriving, defo Troon.

Exactly you may have taken your time, but you have caught up.

Troon is becoming the refuge of choice.

The idea of cruising in company gives me a cold twinge.

But the idea of the CiC arriving is only slightly less chilling. She was expecting me to be in Oban, long story about heat exchangers, exhaust elbows and crappy weather.
Best crew I've got but does keep me on the move.

If it's the choice of the two...Troon.
Kip isn't too far away either remember. Depends on your bank balance, although I'd imagine there isn't too much difference.
Where are you from and where ya heading...out of interest ?
