H1 is alive and kicking. Saw him a week or so ago and spoke on the phone, think his a bit bogged down in work at the moment.

you would think that the locals would have the decency to wear highwaymans masks or sum such.8 euros for beer.48 euros for titchy taxi ride into town.
Axshully old bit of town is OK and you get to review the girls plying for hire at the roadside on blurry taxi journey back to marina.

I was reading the local english paper and there was an article about the police trying to get the girls off the streets in Nice. It then went on to say that they were doing nothing about it in Cannes, and that you could find them working out of cars on the second big roundabout out of town ! Maybe someone on the paper was running a few....

The English Abroad ...

Don't know why I'm defending this 'cos I'd be quite happy if loads of Brits fled the SoF..

When was last time you bought drinks in london...rip-off capital of The World? Come to think of it when was Lymington so cheap for booze?

Living both in soF and London , I assure you cost of living is about 2/3rd of UK ( Oh no, that's another 1,000 down here) .... and anyway who drinks Desperados?

Currently 31 degrees...and gorgeous.

P.S. Very few millionaires really... rather like assuming that the Saudis own London if you buy a drink in South Ken

Re: The English Abroad ...

I agree. I used to live in Monaco. What a dump, but quite a few very ordinary ex-pats of various nationalities doing ordinary jobs at ordinary wages. There were only three advantages that I enjoyed there: the proximity of Provence, enjoying mild weather in January and having a car whose number plate I could remember (4947)!
There were four classes of society in the Principality: the celebs (always invisible but firmly resident), the workers (small town-minded and kicked out if did not sleep enough nights in town), the trodden-on (third-world cleaners and waiters) and the police (ubiquitous in uniform and out it; don't make jokes about the royals there or you're out!)

Re: bit fishy.........

Forgot to mention that we spotted a ginormous sunfish ? while on our travels.
Appeared to be doing a bit of sunbathing.
