There's a thread running on this on PBO and a somewhat similar but different question was posed here a few days ago. I'd like to suggest a different twist.
You're invited to drop anchor off a little estuary beach where some friends are camping for the weekend. Turns out there's quite a crowd and the kids are bored. "Do you mind taking a few people for a trip round the bay? Just under power would be nice."
"Yes, of course," you say, and your prospective passengers start hunting out a hodge-podge selection of lifejackets. But then you start to think. Who's going to carry the can? Where will the buck stop?
What precautions would you take in terms of legal protection? What would you tell your passengers about safety? Are you setting yourself up for a sucker? Should you make any excuse and back out?
