Morning all,

Has anyone had any experience with faulty trim indication on KAD44's

When we raise the Port leg the trim indication goes to 'Beach' mode and stays there.

The local Volvo dealer checked the Potentiometer and found it satis, the dealer said it must be a broken plastic rack ? which requires the boat to be craned out, we had this done and the rack replaced and checked satis.

The first time we tried the boat it failed again!, We spoke to the Volvo Agent who said it Must be the potentiometer which has failed, as these can fail at anytime, he tried a new one this week and guess what, still not working.

The Agent has now said it must be a 'Small plastic wheel in the leg', this not only means the boat out of the water again but leg off!!

Help !!

As an Engineer if I could look at a drawing showing the breakdown of the system I could troubleshoot it myself, is it possible to get a workshop manual for the Engine/Leg ??

Thanks in advance

I'm not posting the section on "remove the outdrive", cos most people that try it for the first time get their foot impaled by the pointy bit at the bottom when it falls off...

Thanks for the Info great,

In your opinion when the agent replaced the potentiometer and the rack, should he have inspected the gear wheel and spotted a problem.

The agent also carried out a full Engine and leg service two months ago !! and we have only done 4 hours since !

P.S where can I buy a copy of the manual you have, do they do it on DVD/CD ??

Thanks again

Andy

Decline to comment, depends on what the problem turns out to be. If the shaft is broken you can't see without dissassembly. You should be able to spot missing teeth, tho. Another possibility is some sort of electrical glitch upstream of the sender - this can be tested by comparing voltage levels at the sender with those at the gauge. Or maybe the gauge itself... If you replace everything and it still doesn't work, time for an exorcism.

My vote still goes for an electrical problem of some description (another faulty sender, as above ?)

This is unfortunate, but typical.

Hardcopy only as far as I am aware - P/N 773 1624-8 (English). "Workshop Manual - Drives". Available from V*lvo dealer. Each workshop manual covers a small area of the drivetrain package, e.g. "Cooling System", "Fuel System", and each manual isn't cheap (£25 or something).
