i have a teak rubbing strake as well as various handholds on the deck of my boat. i want something that only needs to be applied once a year and requires minimal sanding. What would you recommend. Anybody used Burgess Hydrosol?
I tried Sikkens (Cetol) Novatech on the strength of the very positive results in Classic Boat Magazine (March edn) review of stains & varnishes. I am pleased with the results on my rubbing strake so recommendation endorsed. I cleaned the wood off first with patio cleaner as advised elsewhere in this forum. That also worked.
Its teak. It will outlast you if you leave it untreated or lavish it with attention! ikkens does seem to last though, but not suitable for r'eal brightwork'.
As its a rubbing strake, I'd just scrub it with seawater and leave it a fresh yet natural silver grey. Or, wash with an Oxalic acid solution (loads of it on the forum) to regain the colour. Avoid sanding if you can. Don't know about varnishes, but then I wouldn't varnish it - as its a rubbing strake.
