All part of the Boris Brexit deal - one of the few things that seems to have worked so far - even if it is more like a status quo.

If you have been happy relying on the EHIC and yours has expired, you can apply for a GHIC here
www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/healthcare-abroad/apply-for-a-free-uk-global-health-insurance-card-ghic/

Difficult to get travel insurance that is not linked to organised travel unless you go for a "yachtsman" type policy with somebody like Topsail or Bishop Skinner - although no recent experience of what sort of policies they offer.

Just fallen fouls of their age limit. Now looking for replacement annual travel insurance mostly for P & O cruises.

I’m sure you are aware but EHIC etc doesn’t apply in Channel Islands . Always had some travel insurance as part of package along with breakdown and AD for the mobile as part of bank account. Never tried to use the travel aspect but I believe underwritten by Aviva so mainstream supplier not a dodgy Gibraltar underwriter etc. If you fall foul of age limits various brokers specialise in older and impaired lives. I suspect if Google doesn’t reveal the ABI might have info on providers. Sometimes schemes via your bank or card might have flexibility on age limits.

Pretty sure you will find most of those general travel insurance policies do not cover travel by yacht - they are designed around "normal" travel by air, rail, ferry, package tours, cruises etc. Look carefully at the policy details.

Years ago I noticed that on renewal the small print had changed to exclude a holiday specifically on a yacht as distinct from incidentally. Pointed out that made it useless for me so they removed the limitation for no extra premium...

In 2019 I had a multi trip policy with Puffin. In a separate email they confirmed that I could travel by boat & that I would not be covered whilst travelling, but OK when I arrived. One just needs to give them a phone call & explain. Dates of travel are easy to prove , especially as now we need to book in & out of EU countries for the 90 day reasons.
I had 2 visits to a dentist in Guernsey & they paid cost in full. Took 6 weeks, but it was paid & they kept me informed of progress. ie claim sent to independent assessor then approved then back to insurer for payment etc.
The govt do advise travellers have insurance- details as shown on our mooring website--GHIC-(if not shown on the link earlier) & Puffin contact is Puffin
A lot cheaper than many offers such as Bishop & Skinner etc But note the max age of 70 & 74 years

Presumably you mean the typical age constraints on regular travel insurance, but you can go for an individual quote from a specialist insurer. We are both over 75 and I have difficult medical issues but got quotes last year from Staysure, Insureandgo (which we used a few years ago to go to the Far East and New Zealand) and Saga. P&O are only doing round Britain with no stops this year and I expect they will have recommended insurers. You may have difficulties though if you are not UK resident.

75 ???
If you do not have any luck perhaps i can suggest a nice care home with spare places

Can I store my skis and badminton racket there?

I may be fortunate health wise but my Father was still asking tennis at 70+.

Doing DIY at skirting board level I am finding i have to assist getting up pushing with arms now instead of just springing up. Just need my joint grease nipples lubricated.

In Portugal the person issuing my residency certificate 4yrs ago expressed complete surprise remarking that his father was my age and he was an old man! Having a mental age of 3 and an attitude to go with it helps

Always said when I die they will have to screw the coffin lid down as if they only nail it I will be getting out!

I use a UK address for this. Thanks
