I have a friend who is interested in buying a Trapper 300 (1980)

He tells me that there are some light cracks where the chain plates attach to the coach roof, with the port side being slightly worse than the stbd. He thinks that they are only in the gel coat.

Any comments on this. Is it a common problem?

He will have it surveyed before purchase but does not want to so that far if this is a serious prob.

Any advice?

As far as can remember the chain plates don't actually attach to the coach roof, there are fittings there but the main strength comes from the attachment on the bulkhead inside. Check for any movement or distorsion there. I would be worried that if the cracks are big enough that water could be getting in. The trapper 300 is built with an internal fibreglass moulding, great for showing no signs of ageing but a bit of bother if you have to do any repairs to any fittings on the outside.
