Seen a stock boat in Minorca that i am keen to purchase if logistics allow. Happy to sail her from Northern Europe to UK and then on to Ireland. Is there an ideal route back to the UK/Ireland from Minorca?

Northern or Southern Ireland?
If the north you will have to pay VAT assuming the boat is EU VAT paid. I believe the import concession to Mid 2022 only applies to pre UK VAT paid boats.

And only if you exported from the UK it yourself so in this case I fear that there won't be any RGR.
Applies if the boat is VAT paid or non VAT paid

But if only going to Ireland, it is a different matter.

How big is the boat?

David, After some research, I don't think the VAT rule applies to NI but I will phone HMRC before I pay a deposit.

Oh yes - you may be right but I think it is very complicated.
If the boat is EU VAT/IVA paid you may find a solution.
But the devil is always in the detail - as has been said on this forum a lot.

My thinking was, have the dealer deliver it to mainland Southern Europe. Road transport to norther Europe. Sail her myself to UK and hop around the coast to Ireland. I want to understand if southern France or southern Spain is better for first part of transport.

Just to be clear on the VAT issue. NI has dual status as far as boat VAT is concerned. No Q flag is required for example

In Sant Carles, we have a good relationship with Coast to Coast.
They are often delivering boats to/from the UK.
Sant Carles (a British run marina) is midway between Valencia and Barcelona on the Ebro delta.
About 120 miles from Pollenca in Mallorca and about 180 miles from Mahon in Menorca.
We do the run between the mainland and the Balearics a lot - easy crossing in good weather.
Last year we took a Sealine F43 to Mallorca from Sant Carles in a moderate sea with no issues.

In your shoes though, I would take my time and really enjoy a trip all the way on the boat's own bottom.
I know my boat is bigger but we did the journey the other way in 2008.
Torquay to Sant Carles was 1700 miles that we did in 7 days but why not take several months and stop at lots of places on the way.
Really enjoy it - you could make it one of your lifetime challenges.

Here is the report that I wrote at the time but, if doing it again, I would take a lot longer and enjoy it even more.

Hurricane...I'm still working or this would be something to consider.

Do you have a ball park cost for the transport of a forty footer to norther Europe from Sant Carles?

Obviously, I need to factor this in to the cost of the boat as well as the hassle factor. I need to get the offer right taking all these things into consideration.

Have you seen the boat, if not there might be some one on the liver board forum that lives there , could take a look and find any info on it, good luck.

Seastoke,..It has just gone up for sale the last couple of days. So no chance to see boat as of yet. But I think this is a great idea, I will create a post on there.

Thanks Scala, that sounds reasonable. Hoping a return low loader to the UK might keep costs low.

I'm generally just trying to get my head around the logistics. I live and boat in N. Ireland, so obviously looking for the most straightforward way to get the boat back home.
