Hi

If i decided my boat was a heap of junk and was becoming more hassle than its worth so got rid and bought something decent, is it possible to transfer the registration over?! id potentially have to change a few details... or can you not do that and have to pay again??

thanks

You can now apply for a partial refund if the boat you sell can be shown to have permanently left the waterway. Otherwise there is no refund as the licence effectively stays with the boat although you are required to advise the EA of change of ownership. You can retain the name in which case the new owner will have to choose a new name and confirm with the EA.

yea finally got round to googling it. even a partial refund is on the basis that the boat is unusable, reasons such as no longer use it or have sold it dont count. its a little annoying as its registered as minimum size and id be getting another boat similar to replace so lets say i swap my 9ft GRP for a 12ft alloy.... same ££ to register and everything.

looks like ill do a bit more with it, suppose would be nice to use at least once

Give the EA a call and talk to them about it. I changed boats in August 2011, sent off the old licence with proof old boat had been removed from the Thames and the EA kindly sent me a new licence at no cost. Admittedly both boats had the same chargeable area so whether that made a difference I don't know. Worth a call though.

Yeah I know someone that did that too

mic is the drama a painting one? or just the boat is getting heavier to load unload? esp with all that resin lol .... as suggested ring em up and ask if you can swap reg to an ally one...avoid the little alluminium punts [flat bottomed]they are wobbly city .
TBH mate as i said a Portabote /small rib or kayak is the easiest for storage /transport without trailor and launching but a light Ally one if you can find one will fit the bill to atb steve
