Yes!....Spittle, Washing Up Liquid and KY etc work….BUT! I was always informed, and have used for decades silicon grease with anything rubber. Anything other than Silicon could break down the rubber seal over time. Ask any diver who maintains their rubber equipment.
Cant say about Teflon though.

There is also (only discovered this 08) some specific type of grease used on rubber based impellers, has all the properties + a little more than silicon.
PM if you require details (its down the garden in the shed) or speak with your local Outboard service centre.

Ruffles has it!

Save all your expensive greases and use KY Jelly sparingly, running-out of that could be most frustrating!

Airmar themselves recommend:

"Inspect the O-rings (replace if necessary) and lubricate them with the silicone lubricant supplied or petroleum jelly (Vaseline®)"

Would be amazed if they were rubber, and very worried about my car engine if o-rings couldn't tolerate oil..... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thank you, all. I will go with the silicon grease option.

And, pvb, KY is good for filling the space between in-hull echo sounders and the hull /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
