All,

Does anyone have or know where I can borrow or rent a trailer suitable to get my boat from Southampton to Surrey and back again?? Before she goes back in the water I would like to do some work and cleaning and would far rather utilise the time by doing it at home

Any ideas? What trailer would i need?

Mariah 268 - 27.5' long about 3 tonnes? 8'6" beam

Cheers

Nick

You realise this would be illegal to tow as max towing weight=3500kg.
Your boat and trailer would be over that limit.

I am not entirely sure on the boat weight, but would the trailer really be more than 500kg? The boat is quite possibly nearer 2.5tonnes, but i can't seem to find out! Any ideas?

According to our friend Google, the 268 weighs 5700lbs.

Whats 5700lbs in KGS or tonnes?

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4.7V8, towing capacity is 3500kgs (I think)

OK I have stopped being lazy and worked it out... I reckon 2600kgs unladen (i.e empty tanks and no gear on board.

I will have at least half a tank of fuel on board but can empty water and waste!

??

My 4 wheel trailers unladen weight is 600 KG. A trailer to take your boat will weigh at least that. So you will be close to, if not over limit unless you unload everything.

You will really need biggish 4X4 to tow it with, Range Rover, Disco Landcruiser- something of that ilk.

According to this Your somewhere very near the limit with just the boat. Add to that the trailer and your a tad over I would say. Might be worth checking for sure. If your 1kg over your insurance is null and void. Plus the police take an interest and from past experience, they haven't a bloody clue as regards the rules and regs!

Working on the max wieght allowed from that Jeep site, which is 6500lbs. Once converted to Kgs,which is 2948.4 kgs. Your saying boat wieght (dry) is 2500kgs. Which will leave a balance for the trailer weight of 448.4 kgs.
It dont look good unfortunatly. seeing as a trailer to take a boat of that size is easily going to top the scales at 500kgs easy. Which at the end of the day is a bit of a bugger!

I rented a Trailer from a place very close to the old Derek Warwick Honda place in Southampton a year or so ago, trailed a 225 weekender to Spain with it. They had all sorts of trailers for all sorts of boats and would actually trail for you if required. I have the details at the office, if you want them, PM me. Paul
