Trailer for my planned boat trip

Yes, you are right Enterprise. In the end it'll be worth it. Took the bearings to a friends garage...they called an hour later, bad news, wrong bearings!! Gah. Called SBS they said they would try and get the proper ones to me tomorrow. With new break cables and centre cable to the front :S. Oh well as you say it'll be good when it's done.

I've completely cleaned up all the wheels and associated area and given it some rust protection. Looks really good now, soaking all the springs and other gear in petrol over night and tomorrow I hope the other gear arrives early am and I'll get the bearings pressed in. Then back together..

Keep you posted!

Right, I've got this mostly back together new bearings, brake shoes, cables etc etc. I'm trying to adjust the breaks and it's a bit of a mystery to me. I've tightened up the break cable from the plunger to the plate where all the cables to each wheel connect.

My question is, the only way I can get the brakes to work is by having the cable tight, no slack, brakes are not on at all. Fine. However, it is tight, no slack! If I have it loose the plunger hits the back-stop in the towbar assembly before the brakes go on! This is due to about 1.5-2inch movement in the plunger from fully extended to closed and hitting the backstop.

Does this sound right? Anyone help?!

Cheers

Hi buddy, What fun you're having, they didn't work properly when you had the boat on it, if you want to tow it down as it is, I would be about this week, in the evenings to offer my limited assistance, two heads etc

There is a newish looking 5.5 twin axeled roller coaster trailer for sale in the car park of Harold Hayles on the Isle of Wight. Had a price on it of £1250.00. Don't know if it's big enough for you though...
