Hi all,

Looking for any upto date experiences and advice any of you have had post brexit taking your trailer Boat through Bilbao or Santander Ports for holiday purposes. Temporary use in Spain and Portugal. The more recent the better. My boat is SSR reg in my name, uk vat paid, all paperwork, insurance in order etc.Just fancy a nice family Boat holiday but don't require any stress with any over zealous Spanish port officialdom.

Any help greatly appreciated.

RYA have a guide, they don't believe a Carnet is needed if you're not taking part in a race (although they self-contradict on this). They say you do need to declare the boat on import and export and they provide a form. The trailer also has to be EU road legal (the UK had a number of opt outs which were removed by Brexit). So the trailer has to extend beyond the load.

Don,t know about Spain but Portugal allows up to 1 metre overhang at the rear and .30m on either side , wider than the towing vehicle. Anything more and you need to get a transit document.

Thanks for the replies, I've contacted RYA but I don't think they really know. Anyone else on here with first hand experience like to chip in?

I m trying to find out about trailering my boat on holiday not registering my trailer.
Forgot to mention earlier, max boat width 2.55m, same as uk I think ?
If you are just coming for a holiday and have the return tickets to prove it, then I don,t imagine you will have any problems with customs or immigration

I think the RYA reported someone stopped by customs last year as you have to import the boat and get the relevant paperwork and then show it as you leave. Probably a red lane visit to do that.
