i have just bought a small yamaha 330 rib eye with 15hp outboard is this to heavy for davits or is it safe to tow it in fair weather my boat is a 35s5

It won't be too big for davits, you'll just need adequate davits. I hate towing boats, it's something else to worry about but I see that it doesn't seem to bother most people, so towing it in fair weather is an option, however I'd want some arrangement to pick it up if it was to be the tender.

Danielle, you might consider this idea. I Knew a Norwegian sailor down in the LeeWard Islands who towed his rib almost everywhere. He had bought some extra "D" rings on their fabric tabs from a dinghy supply source and stuck them on the side tubes of his rib.

His towing warp was always made fast to a stainless eye bolt in the wooden transom of the rib and led forward each side, through the extra "D" rings and then through the rib's bow eye.
In effect when he towed all the weight came on the rib transom. He told me if the weather got up he would part fill the rib with sea water and it never went airbourne..:D

I never saw it in action but I know he sailed between islands like that and although the weather was never exactly Bad, it did get a bit boisterous when you came out of the lee of the islands and got whacked by the Trades. :D
