I'm trying to ensure I do not underestimate the running costs for a 34 footer in the south of france. So far I have budgeted for

1. financing
2. mooring
3. fuel
4. insurance
5. annual engine maintenance
6. annual lift, anti-fouling paint etc.
7. guardiennage (optional)
8. travel to and from boat
9. survey (one-off)
10. registration

Am I missing anything. Any "taxes" of any sort.

thanks

General chandlery and equipment upgrade/service, ie you always end up losing fenders, replacing flares, servicing life rafts, adding Soltron (ahem) and stuff like that. things go rusty and things break.

Boat needs polishing and general looking after so adjust some of the cost for that.

Hope this helps.

The only other major cost depends on how you use the boat. That of fees for mooring at lunch or over night stops. Can add up over a year if you use the boat frequently

Chablis and Champagne, although much cheaper in France. We find it the biggest part of our boating costs in the Uk, You will drink it for refreshment in the Sun, we drink it to cheer ourselves up in the rain.

Electricity charges at berth. Cooking gas if you use it. Perhaps you have covered these smaller items under mooring? Roy

You've got just about everything except the biggest cost and that is depreciation. When you come to sell the boat in, say, 3 yrs time, not only is it going to be worth a bit less but you will have to pay 5-8% + VAT in brokerage fees to sell it. So, maybe you'll lose, in your case, say, £20k between what you pay for the boat and what you actually receive in your hand when you sell it

Also some marinas in the Med charge a service charge over and above berthing charges, I guess to cover things like admin staff, rubbish disposal, lighting etc. Also you may be charged extra for electricity

No taxes on a uk flag which is by far the best choice. (By the way you do not need a licence of any kind to sail a UK flagged vessel in the med. only if you go on french rivers or canals or if vessel is above 24 metres.)

Insurance is relatively cheap for 3rd party - i pay €150 through a broker in Milan.

Survey is not a cost but an investment. They will undoubtdly find something not 100% and you can take this off the offer price. As well as this you should get at least 10% off the asking price, as a guide. Cheapest moment to buy boats is in October, most expensive is in spring time. If you insure fully comp they will also insist on a survey.

Agreed .. but as you know service charge covers everything like re-building pontoons... yes when you rent out one charges all inclusive ( 'cos you have to do it through the port now) ....
