Tollesbury Dredging (again)

This has been a problem across the EU for a long time, and presumably we were included when it started. I remember being told that they had stopped dredging Blankenberg, at least for a while, when they couldn’t just dump it offshore. I have heard of similar problems with even minor work done in the Colne.

The reason for the temporary suspension of dredging in Blankenberge is related to the work on a new permanent western pier.
The access channel was last dredged in February 2023.

It is not just an EU matter: marine dredging and waste disposal are also subject to the OSPAR [OSlo and PARis] Convention, to which (and to its predecessors) the UK has long been (and remains) a Contracting Party. Norway, and the EU itself, are also Contracting Parties.

I was referring to some ten or more years ago as I've not been there for five years or so, and I think the reason I was given at the time was correct. On the last occasion I was there the Ibis bar had closed and I was unable to get my fix of draught Kasteel. I wasn't aware that the pier needed renewal, but presumably at least some section of the mole will be permeable.

Tollesbury VHF has 'broken' do use your mobile phone to reach them. Some dredging evident, but 'in progress' not completed. Charming as always though...

Am in there at the minute. Keel definitely in the mud at LW but that doesn’t bother me. I booked a berth by phone and was allocated a space there and then. Otherwise (as said above) it’s a lovely spot as always.
