The finest bog known to yottin, priced accordingly, is Blakes' "Victory". Almost indestructible, almost unblockable, good with holding tanks...a fine piece of plumbing, Sir!

there's many (near) pristine sets of Shanks's vitreous enamel being disposed of eg victoria bus station. upright versions particularly good as you can lean against them in heavy seas without spoiling one's aim ... quite heavy too

hope that helps ...

The common or garden Jabsco - parts are available in practically every chandlers. Buy something more exotic and when it breaks down on the first day of your two week summer cruise, it will take you three weeks to track down the necessary part!

Agree about the Lavac, only trouble is wifey, she is intelligent(degree etc)but unable to operate this simple mechanical device. She either fills it up with debris from the seabed(halved the local crab population)or leaves it with no water.I have'nt yet got her to master this even though the instructions are printed on the device,I have tried but only receive the usual glare and have to resort to talking about shoes.I would be grateful for any advice on this matter.

And it's a good job spares are readily available too. It must be the worst designed item on my boat.

Had a Baby blake previously. Great loo! Impossible to block! It developed a leak here and there and was expensive to rebuild. It needed maintenance.

I have a Blakes Lavac now. It has no moving parts on the loo. The pump is a white version of the Henderson MK5. It has been installed for 2 seasons and we have no problems. I bought this on recommendation from others. It is very good.

I would go for one of these again. Dont touch a Brydon. They are junk in my opinion

Sorry to disagree, I've fitted 3 Jabsco/PAR toilets and found them to be fine - never had to fit any spares yet. Reasonably priced as well if you contact the discount chandlers.
As for the Baby Blake - wonderful bit of victorian marine plumbing, but you need to be a millionaire to afford one - but do look good in a nice wooden gaffer when all the brass is polished.....

I have Jabsco/par in my boat and its hopeless, had to replace the pump cylinder twice in 4 years due to the plastic cracking around the screws suporting the whole pump assembly (poor design) and not cheap when you have to keep buying spares,I was very tempted to buy a Lavac when pump went last time but needed it back in action fast .

We have had a Jabsco/PAR in our boat for 16 years (including 6 years living aboard) and to be fair it's been very good. I've only had to replaced the pump body once (about 7 years ago). We put cooking oil down the pan to lubricate the pump and it just seems to keep working.

Blakes have it

Whether it is a Lavac, a Victory or a Baby, Blakes make the best loos.

Me - Baby. About to celebrate its fiftieth birthday. Has had a couple of rebuilds but it deserved them. Has never gone wrong, though on one memorable occasion She Who Must be Obeyed put baby wipes down it and blocked - not the Baby, which was fine, but the 1 1/2" discharge seacock!

Re: Lavacs

THESE R FANTASTIC
no other option,
no small springs, little levers, + other moving parts.
just a bog + bilge pump & if your lucky it will be the same pump as main bilge so less spares to carry

Re: Lavacs

Have you ever wondered what was the fishes eye view of a flushed head .As an engineer I am always curious as to know how things worked for exaample my mother told me all the locks on the house fell apart after I had taken them to bits with a screw driver when only a few years old . My pram also fell to bits .

So any way I jumped in after flushing with snorkel on to see how things went - so to speak .

I was amazed . No sign of the obvious but tiny flakes of toilet paper glinting like a rainbow in the sunlight - quite beautiful . Super dispersion.
I know one is not supposed to put paper down but being me I wanted to see what happened .

I now know
