Best idea I'v heard of is to fit a bin liner into the basin of the loo. Dump into the bag, wipe your bum. When finished tie it up and pop it into a cheap plastic Q-D storage container. At the end of your trip you simply throw the plastic container into a skip ashore.

Or you could fit a small bucket into the loo bowl to poo in, then sling the contents overboard.

Not to sure about the paper degrading rapidly, in popular anchorages in the BVI for example, the sea bed is layered with bog paper, in some cases even smothering the sea grass. On uor boat it goes in a bin for disposal ashore when possible.

Ordinary toilet paper is required to disperse within a few minutes - it is a regulation in the UK. Some years ago a new TP was introduced by, I think, Kleenex, and they had to modify it after the makers of Andrex reported them to the authorities as while the paper was nice to use, it did not disperse. It was a dirty trick, I believe, to try to displace the market leader.

Anyway, more and more, in advanced countries such as the USA, Germany and more recently the UK, people have become used to using wet wipes which, while being very nice and effectively a 'bidet', are not dispersible at all. Those things are packed in water (and sometimes alcohol) so clearly are designed to have 'wet strength' which is not acceptable as TP. It is also the reason why facial tissues are not acceptable as TP.

I strongly suspect that your anchorage in the BVIs is littered with wet wipes. Yuk.

Don't use bog roll - much prefer using the "bidet" - nice clean bum, no skid marks and no chance of blocking the bog with paper....... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Another option would be to do as they did in Nelson's navy and use oakum. It would have to be a natural fibre oakum, of course. Perhaps hemp - then you could smoke it as well.

Never had a problem with paper in the loo blocking it, other things (woman) have, but not paper, been living aboard for 14 years on this boat. Get the softest, it's in shreds before it even reaches the sea.

A drunk staggers into a Catholic Church,
enters a confessional booth, sits down, but says nothing.
The Priest coughs a few times to get his
attention but the drunk continues to sit there.
Finally, the Priest pounds three times on the wall.
The drunk mumbles, "Ain't no use knockin,
there's no paper on this side either!" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

PS Cliff we also have a bidet, it doubles as an outboard motor well /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
