dilute sodium hypochlorite) but I would remind people that it is a bad thing to let it get together with sea water or urine (calcium deposits) and very bad to get it with any kind of acid (chlorine gas evolved

[/ QUOTE ] I agree about mixing a hypochlorite bleach with an acid (any acid) but could you please explain the chemistry that produces chlorine with sea water or calcium (carbonate) deposits. Urine as well for that matter.

hi morton bay to day and for many days now 15 to 20 kts gusting 30 40 kts , rain . hot . not nice but some out sailing still most days , i class them as nut cases but thats only my thoughts dave

hi agree but with good airflow no problem ive done this for over 50 yrs and aint had aproblem and never had to unblock any toilets on any of the boats ive had dave

Any strong alkali e.g. hypochlorite after it has had a go at any organic stuff will tend to deposit calcium carbonate in the bowl and pipes from either sea water or hard tap water. Took me years to persuade SWMBO not to pour bleach down the loo at home for that reason. She was eventually amazed how the need for descaling vanished.

Like I said it's acids that make Hypochlorite give off chlorine.

[/ QUOTE ] Sorry then I misunderstood what you were saying. Abbreviated a bit to much for my brain to grasp so late in the day.
