Tohatsu 6hp 4-stroke won\'t stop!

Engine came with the boat this year. Little used 2005 model. Got it serviced, works fine except it's so eager to work that it won't stop!! Removing the kill cord does nothing and pushing in the red button doesn't stop it quickly. Last time I had to remove the fuel line and it eventually agreed to stop. Anyone know what the problem might be and what I can do to cure it?

Thanks guys (and gals).

Sounds like the kill button is duff. If you remove the casing are there spade connectors on the back of the button. Pulling a wire (either) off will stop the motor. That's all the button does, break the continuity of that lead.

Follow the wires from the stop button check one hasnt pulled out of a connection somewhere.Im not familiar with the Tohatsu but that was the problem on my Suzuki once.

Are you sure about that?On my Suzuki and on my 3 previous engines the stop button worked by making a connection not by breaking one.

[/ QUOTE ] More likely that is a shorting button (mine so far have been) In which case it may need dismantling and cleaning. Alternatively as Graham suggests a wire has come off somewhere, or there is a bad connection.

Yep. You could be right. I was confusding it with my current remote.

It's still going to be the kill switch or wiring.
