To writer signed ECF

Hi,

Ok, I confess, spotted the ECF burgee fluttering on a Malo in Dover, and put 2 and 2 together on the owner, hence note. I thought with a little detective work the note writers identity would be revealed !

A two night stopover in Dover 16/17th, was to be one, but a migraine intervened. We would also have bypassed Dover and headed for Ramsgate, but ran out of daylight.

Dover is in my experience rather lacking in on shore facilities, the Granville Dock noise from road and harbourside works. It also can catch one out when the lock gates shut ! On the plus side it is calm and secure, the staff are friendly. As the Channel Pilot states there are 'interesting' tidal effects at the entrances !!

We had an interesting fairly leisurely 18 days away from Fambridge, with almost constant NE/E winds, getting as far as Weymouth. A stopover in Lymington Y.H. made us feel quite at home with entry near low water giving zero depth, more than compensated by the world leading shower facilities.

We were sorry to miss meeting the most southerly ECF member, perhaps another year ?

Alasdair

Did you miss the red-fronted cafe a few yards up the main road (run by a couple of Eastern European women, it seemed) serving a very palatable full English breakfast from 6am-3pm, and a great little chandlery a few doors beyond?

Add to that Cullins Yard (excellent grub, beer and atmosphere) and the cafe on the end of the pier. Oh and the seafood emporium on the beach (expensive but very good nosh)

Personally, I am happy with the very quirky YBW burgee...
But, the Roach sailing association has a brown lower, a greyish blue upper, with a pitch tar coated black shed in the middle( the storage shed at Paglesham) It is the epitome of East Coast burgees.

In other less populated forums, there is a Bluemoment one which is well made and a good design.

But I still say keep the one we have.

If we are going independant shouldn't we have a referendum :encouragement:

I vote NO for a independent ECF burgee!

This ugly face of nationalism must be crushed!

OK, my hat into the ring

I don't like the YBW burgee aesthetically speaking
I don't like the attitude of *some* of the proponents of the YBW burgee
I'm not wild about it's core association with the Motor Boats Monthly forum*
I'm definitely not wild about its secondary association with the Lounge

I DO think that the ECF has a distinct identity as a group
In fact, it's the nearest thing there is to a virtual online Yacht / Sailing Club there is
I AM delighted, and indeed priveleged, to be associated with the East Coast Forum
I'd like an aesthetically pleasing burgee or house flag to indicate that "membership"

* In no way critical or disparaging of motor boats, simply that to mine eyes the YBW burgee was originated by and is still, by some at least, considered the intellectual property of the Motor Boat Forum

So yes, I'd very much like an ECF burgee!

As I already have a burgee I am very proud to be able to fly I am not overly bothered..........

However to join in the spirit when at ECF events I do put up the cocktail mouse at the stbd cross tree and if the ECF decided our own burgee, or maybe 'House Flag' I would participate.

Personally I do like what Clive does with code flags for ECF. If I didnt have them sewn together into dressing lines I would copy him.
