Have just seen a tip in another mag "Tip never heat laquer or any other solvent based material over a naked flame. Warm it gently in a pan of water instead."
The picture shows the can in a sauspan on a boat gas cooker. They can't be serious can they, would this not be potentially hazardous even if the inflammable solvent does not ignite it could fill the boat with fumes to give a potential explosion. Also what if you got distracted and left it unattended.
If you want to warm a solvent based paint first warm the water to 50 -60c on the stove in a sauspan. Then TURN OFF THE GAS and take the sauspan into the cockpit and put the can with the lid off into the water and gently stir the contents of the can until it is of the desired viscosity.
NEVER HEAT A SOLVENT BASED MATERIAL ON A GAS STOVE EITHER DIRECTLY OR IN A WATER BATH. Thats my opinion what do you think ?
Lets keep boating safe.
