Is it possible (i.e. easy - no electrical skills) to add a timer to start the Webasto heater before I have to get out of my bunk and get frostbite the morning. My Webasto just has the standard switch - ON graduated temp. control / OFF / or a choice of just running the fan for ventilation.

I use a stick to operate my Eberspacher from the warmth of my bunk. It does have a 7-day programmer but that would mean getting up at the same time everyday.

Stick is agood idea!! There are course plenty of expensive timers around. Cheapest solution is to identify the trigger wire on your switch ( probably yellow and going to terminal 6 or 7 ) when this is connected to the positive red lead the heater will fire up.
You could use a simple timer there or even just extend the yellow and red leads to a switch near your bunk and use that.

Quite a number of options are available (the one in the ebay link will require quite a bit of wiring modification and a 7 pin plug or an expensive adaptor loom but on the other hand is a good unit and also controls the temperature. We are now using (and Webasto have started to supply as part of "wet" kits) A low voltage heatmiser multi event unit which is really good on new installs or for upgrades, it requires a little wiring but I could supply you a plug and play loom economically if you need one, this method retains original temperature control dial and allows the timer to be sited wherever convenient. They are also quite easy to fit as if needs be they fit on a 1 gang patrix.

This might work but not sure i would trust it with a heating system. Could be really lazy then and get kettle boiling, lights on,stereo on etc.

Unfortunately the signal cable for Webo instant on is 0v not +12v and whilst it would be possible to modify that unit to produce that the OP needs something if not completely plug and play then very close to it. Actually there is a harness suitable for the 1531 timer in your link on ebay cheaply but the combined cost would be so close to a new heatmiser plug and play unit with a full warranty that it simply is not worth the trouble.

I assume that you have the standard 'old fashioned' rheostat switch? in which case you can use my suggestions above. You can set the control to the temp you require and when you 'make' the connection with the extended switch as described ( yellow to red) then you will be up and running. IE the control knob is just used for the temp setting and the on and off bit is via your extended switch.
PS colours mentioned are for ebers i cant remember the webasto coding

Depends what level of control you want, and your level of willingness and ability to identify and cable up the trigger, the OP really wants plug and play and as he mentioned a timer I assume he, like me wants the place warm to wake up to and not have to wait after hitting the (admitedly cheap and simple to do) switch. The great thing about timers is you have a much higher level of control, warm boat on arrival on a Friday, warm to wake up to, warm when getting back from the pub / dinner etc. The expense is actually quite small in the great scheme of things.

Yes David but plug and play will not be possible without him doing some electrical work unless he gets an adapter to fit into the connector at the back of his rheostat control.
He did mention that it was the 'getting out of bed' he wanted to avoid. He can use an alarm clock to wake up, switch on his heater and contemplate the day while the boat warms up!!

Indeed if he were to use the 1531 on eBay which is a primitive single operation seven day unit but the cheaper and more sophisticated heatmiser timer comes with a harness and is plug and play, nothing to do other than mount it and plug it in, it's all I fit on new installs now, a rare case of something better and yet cheaper. The Webo instant heat button is different in operation to the Ebo in as much as it is a single pulse to earth rather than an on off switch, normally used for telestart operation but will work with a small push to make non latching switch

David,

Is the heatmiser a Webo product or is this it: http://www.heatmiser.co.uk/web/index.php/timeclock?

I need something for a D3Lc, would the heatmiser work?

Rob

The one I alude to is supplied from Webasto Rob, along with the associated Plug and Play harness but yes, the link you show is the same thing in bare form, it is important that if you intend to source a heatmiser direct that you get the network version as it is a 12vDC rather than a 240vAC unit. So a TM1-N at about £45 is the one to choose unless you want even more sophistocation like control over the internet or suchlike. It should work with anything really, it's just an on / off controller, nothing more, just identify the right interface.
