Hi all.
I don't want to revisit ground that has already been covered in depth at some time in most forums here , but am looking for a practical solution to, what I consider, a serious and potentially dangerous problem.
In one of my roles I come across a lot of old flares on privately owned boats of all descriptions - the oldest I've seen was out of date in 1971. Those of you down in West Wales have the option of MRCC Milford reasonably close by, and those of you further down south have Brixham and Poole as potential options to legally dispose of the TEPs, but that leaves an awful lot of us boaters who don't have ready access to safe, legal disposal methods. I know that there are chandlers and yards that will take them in, but these are getting fewer and fewer now.
So my point is, would any of you in the Bristol/South East Wales end of things, or those without ready access to the fixed disposal points, be interested in a collective collection system?
In other words someone would collect the expired flares from you at a club or marina on a certain date?
I suppose the other question must be, would you be willing to pay a nominal sum (Say £1/flare) for this to cover costs, cos it wouldn't be free!?!
Just some thoughts on a quiet day before heading off for a sail!
Regards
Paul
p.s. I have got the contacts to do this entirely legally if the interest is there.
