Tightening propellor bolts

The Steve D'Antonio letter is excellent. I agree with everything he says. When I tighten a prop onto a taper I use a socket with a 12 inch ratchet, one blade of the prop against a wooden shore on the ground, and tighten fairly hard. Any more than this risks the prop being so hard on the taper that extreme measures are needed to remove it. I am convinced that most of the requests for advice on prop removal that we see so often on this forum are due to tightening the nut as if the prop was on a parallel shaft against a shoulder.
