Tide clock- PBO

February PBO No.434 Page 65 showed a tide clock which seems a good idea.
However I can't understand the text that states-"Not only does the time wheel rotate but it slides horizontally so that it can be adjusted .....etc"
Can somebody explain please.?

A blind guess not seeing the rest of the article:

Does the slide move 6 hours to allow for a coastal trip from Hull to Dover say?

The west of Ireland and Hull have tides approximately 6 hours different from Liverpool, Dover and Wick.

Otoh, it may be something for international travel where the tidal ranges are completely different to home waters.
