Just got back from Mallorca after getting down there late Wednesday night. I walked along to my boat and thought "that looks very low in the water" and thought the worst....then noticed it wasn't the boat it was the water. Now remember that in the mned the water level never changes so the pontoon is fixed concrete, it doesn't rise and fall like UK ones. "All very strange I thought" and went down stairs and unpacked a bit. 15 minutes later I went back up to find the water now several feet higher than normal and coming over the top of the pontoon...and this continued for a couple of hours with the water level rising and falling by about 5-6 feet every 15 minutes. There were some worried owners whose boats were in danger of rubbing on the conrete sides but as far as I can tell no major damage....unlike Menorca where the local news reported over 100 boats sunk, including a nice Ferretti it showed on TV. All the results of the Algerian earthquake apparently...I guess we shouldn't complain when compared to what happened there though...but certainly not like anything I've seen before. Was anyone else around those parts Wednesday night?
