Can anyone recommend a tidal stream atlas for the N Brittany coast? I'm looking for something with more inshore detail than is usually found in the pilots.

Thanks,

John

I used to use the Reeve-Fowkes tidal atlases when I sailed in that area. They were very good and easy to use. Unfortunately they don't extend down to southern Brittany where i am now based so I use one produced by SHOM which is also detailed enough for me.

Thanks, I haven't come across these. Looks interesting. I'll take a look.

Have a copy of the Reeve F version for north Brittany which is good but runs on Cherbourg times so tend to use Dover based admiralty ones as a first reference point . Have always wondered if a plastic sliding version exists like that made for the Solent which would be more robust which might be ideal solution. Maybe others have seen such a slider versionthough produced in France ?

I’ve never understood why using Cherbourg times should worry anyone. They’re as easily available in the almanac as Dover tide times

Yes exactly.

When I used to sail in that area, the publishers would, if asked, send you a handy card each year with Cherbourg tidal data on it. But now it is easy to find such data on line and print or download it.

The original R-F used Dover which was handy though, apparently, not as accurate as Cherbourg. So if you can find an old copy you will be fixed up.
