Throwing your toys from your pram

Re: It is not about throwing Toys from prams...

Think there's a couple of things
I usually live and let live but a couple of incidents I've witnessed recently indicate to me that there will be some serious accidents happening in the near future. Now if a family of (say) 5 gets wiped out in a marine incident in the Solent then the consequent fall out will adversely affect us all.

IMHO with current increase in congestion and speeds it is just a matter of time before this happens.

Kev

There is plenty of sea out there, but its thoughtfull behaviour in the right place. What gets people going for example is siting in a quiet anchorage and having a mobo or PWC come through at a speed to create a wash. I've been sat in Studland bay when a water skier (with tow boat) has come through the achored boats! We were anchored outside Newtown Creek earlier this year, SWMBO was swimming, a rib drives through, on the plane!

Now if your going to tell me that I'm spoiling other peoples fun by complaining then I wouldnt want an invite to the party!

I disagree with Kevb

Being one that has thrown stuff out of pram - I feel I can answer this one from horses mouth so to speak ....

When you have just saved your wife from going overboard, when you have just inspected the distorted base of your mast, when you have just risked ripping the engine off its mounts thrwoing it violently into full astern ............. etc.

I think I have a fair right to moan about other users inconsiderate ways ...

I for one enjoy all forms of water activity ... having raced raggies, cruised heavies, speed trialed tunnel hulls .... paraglided etc. etc.

So *&^%$((*&&^%$£ - I will moan and graon as much as I like ...

well, there are exceptions

It doesn't say on your bio that you're female, and a Kylie look-alike, so the answer is "no". If your bio is wrong on both counts, [--suggestion deleted--].

Tell you what really got my goat one day..

6am on a bright, clear morning I'm slowly going down the Itchenor reach and there is a Yacht coming the other way. I have that warm feeling, life is good. I'm making no wash at all.

I wave at my fellow seafarer in the yacht coming towards me.

The look I got back was unbelievable! Sheer disdain and snobbery. I, of course was in a power boat.

Get it from the dinghies as well racing in the harbour even when I have stopped to give plenty of space to let them pass.

A friendly wave goes a long way.

Think this thread has been explored a thousand times before.....come on Kev surely you are no different from whinging at the whingers. Yea it would be great if we could all live happily together but think you will find that's not life......in the mean time we have to make the best of what we have whilst we still have it!!!

If my dog came and sat next to you in the park, farted and then pissed up your leg???

With in the law,....I dunno.

But bloody inconsiderate of me to let him do it!!!

Sorry, but typical mines bigger than yours and I can do what I want.

An example of tarring !!

Friend of mine had a 31 ftr ...... nice and clean, unmarked. He raced it, sailed it all over .... cross-channel, Ch. Isles etc. Had it for years ...

He's minding his own business probably enjoying a wee drop of malt as he usually did ...

In front of him tied up to pontoon is a big MOBO ... very similar to a certain mobo used in an AVATAR that is prominent in this thread ... (boat was dark blue though !!). Guy on MOBO decides he wants to test engines ... why non-one knows ... but tests he does ...

Now it wouldn't have been so bad if he had kept in neutral, it might have been still ok if he had not opened the throttles, but it certainly would have been better if he had replaced the string supplied with the boat for mooring with some decent lines ... Yep - he basically shot forward into my mates pristine 31 and smashed the stem in ... (repairs necessitated cutting away the whole upper section of stem and re-building ....). To cap it all the MOBO guy tried all sorts to try and get out of it ... blaming everything except his own stupidity ....

Of course he was perfectly entitled to test engines .......... not so bloody funny for Brian though was it ...... the loss of use of the boat, the insurance wrangle, getting the boat back across the solent without sinking her etc.

Re: An example of tarring !!

I assume your point is that the yottie should have been charged with being drunk in charge?

Funny though - you don't see many web sites complaining about every car accident where someones foot slpped off the cluch and whacked in the boot of another. Maybe motorists are a bit more tolerent than some yotties??? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: An example of tarring !!

Do they fit foot clutches to MOBOs now? Bloody good idea!
Perhaps indicators are next, but then again, they would just park inconsiderately with the hazard warning flashers on.

Would have to suggest that both Yotties and Stinkies are mostly (equally) car owners, so perhaps it is just a personality thing arising on contact with water?

Bit of thread drift from NL though. How did we get from wash annoyance to engine testing in confined spaces, and the breaking strain of palpably inadequate mooring arrangements?

Right.

Who's up for a nice keel haul?!

I vote that we get hold of KevB and find a suitable boat that need the bottom scrubbing and use him as a scourer.

Please add you vote to Keel Haul KevB
