Throttle cable

I have a Yanmar YSB8 with seperate throttle and gear shift lever I have a problem with the throttle cable, when increasing speed the throttle lever sometimes springs back to its original position similar to the accelerator on a car I can usually overcome this by going past the position I want it to be at then letting it spring back and hope it will stay at the position I want. I have not done anything with it yet I thought I would ask for help first in case anyone has had similar probs.

Most of these levers have some kind of friction adjustment. Not sure where it is on yours, but dealer should be able to put you right.

If it is anything similar to morse controls, flat spring steel bears on a ball bearing, adding more strips will increase the required friction.

Take it apart and look!

I have had the same problem since I had a brand new Beta engine installed. The outer cable on the old engine was not attached to the engine block and there was a degree of slack to take up before the cable started to work. By that time the actuator had travelled over 45 degrees and was past the point affected.
I have looked for a way of changing the friction but can't find one so I am going to have to crimp the steel plate at the back with a pair of mole grips so as to flatten it out or by a whole new lever assembly. If anyone has a better idea I would be very grateful.
