The autoroute comes close so from up there from Savona to Ventimiglia you can glimpse them .
So we used to come off and reccy + have lunch at them ....all of them .
Theres nothing wrong with any of them , depends what you want .Loano is physically very close ..only about 15 mins where the main N/S autoroute to Torino meets the coast E/W .

Theres an island ...Gallinara where you can anchor right up , it s 20 M until about 2 m off ! .about 8 miles W so you can always find shelter .
People think ( we all did geography at school ) that the coast runs W to E to the top of Italy’s leg .
But this bit is more N/S , so my compass says 0 degrees from the island back to Loano and 180 to it .
Theres also a swanky hotel , with a pool on top ( see pic ^^^ ) on site talking €200 / night its only got something like 8 rooms .
Its ideal for our friends and they book themselves with in .Obviously there are many more like Antibes in town to choose .
Underground car parks = shade ,and you can rent a garage to hide your car + park for us 20 M from our berth ...,think lugging stuff .They also deliver water bottles via golf buggy , remove oil + batteries from your berth ...again you dont have to lug those s about .
A few commerce shops and on site eateries.
Its what Antibes + other old CdA marinas should be like ,
Finger berths .....at first I thought Hmm ? ....but you can access the sides of your boat .
Theres zero service charge a huge boost, the meter for water / leccy is on a rechargeable fob .
Our Aircon use age is about a€6 / night .
From January to June ( basically lockdown = just charger on ) used about €70 worth .
Wifi is €100 / pa ....and it works ok .

The other way for a short swim trip is Varigotti.....never seen anything like it .Theres no sea wall ( maybe the N/S orientation of the shore = zilch bad storms ? ) so the houses are on the beach literally. Contrast that with the citadel in Antibes old town ...huge walls which the sea does blow up in a E storm .

Varazzi was expensive ( owned by a famous family ) ...nice place about 1/2 hr from Genoa airport .
Loano is 1 hr to Genoa or 2 to Nice / Antibes .

A little gem is Alassio ....it’s where they ( Sinatra , Sophia Loren et al ) used to hang out before Bardot got her kit off in St Trop .
So is a up market place without the cruise ships , campers and crowds who daily trash st Trop .Its Marina is about 1 mike out of town .Between the marina and town are up market villas . There’s a yard there too , and the island Gallinara is just off the town .
Quite a secret really .

no sea wall as such ...just walk straight out on to the beach .Varragotti

We are near Alassio thats Gallinara, with a few boats ( W/E ) and the boat near, which I think you should recognise ,just popped out of Alassio about a mile away anchored with two crew and elderly “ owners “ went for a swim ....nice + private etc .Afterwards they just slipped back into the marina .So you know low cost fuel wise .

Alassio is just round the first headland ...just see the marina , with a castle next to it .
This is a typical sea state ......no kidding it’s not Itama country here :)
You don,t need stabs here either. You would go bust trying to flog sea keepers here .Meanwhile in the CdA you couldn’t get enough...booming business .

Crazily flat dead calm ....this is 20 miles W from the pic above toward Savona .

Nothing breaking on the rocks ..weird ?
Thanks Porto. Interesting information

Is it starting to cool down yet, it’s been too hot to think about bringing our dog so far this year.
It’s difficult for a dog, especially car journeys. The wife takes the dog out for a long walk very early in the morning, she then likes to go for a swim in the sea. Unfortunately the dog doesn’t like to swim, so either he’s dragged into the water or he’s left at home. His next walk isn’t until the family walk (ie they take me) in the evening. During the rest of the year he goes out several times a day.

Our dog, a Westie, isn’t too bad. He handles the drive very well and copes well with the heat. We rig a shade patch for him on the bow when we are up there and he is happy sitting there. When we are in the port the aircon is constantly on and he lets us know when he wants to be in the cabin cooling off.

That’s a brand new turbo, they don’t come painted so I’ve painted it.
A bit of masking tape on the specs plate wouldn't have been out of place... :)
But other than that, nice job, as far as can be seen in the pic.
Out of curiosity, what primer did you use?
