I need to get a few jobs sorted then we will drive down to sof and stay until all this shit is lifted.
A bit OTStrongly recommend Italy. No foreigners here at all. Currently in Syracuse. People out and about, good atmosphere. No festivals but all restaurants open. Anchorages no issue, only Italians around. Absolute bliss. Only concern is wondering whether there will be much to return to in UK at least economically wise.
Thanks. That is really helpful. We are heading southwards post Syracuse and then around to the Egadis.A bit OT
Love Syracuse. Also if you go down 20 nm South to Marzamemi it is another steal. You have Fontanne Bianche further South, and then Marzamemi with Capo Passero, Isolda dell Correnti, and Portopalo.
Just avoid Marzamemi on weekends (gets busy with folks coming down from up as Riposto), and berth and become friends with Paguro to have a berth at the entry of the town.
Also the nice thing about Marzamemi and Syracuse is that it is relatively a cheap cruising ground for berths and fuel wise.
Here is a video of my cruise from 2019;
After Marzamemi go to Marina di Ragusa very nice modern marina (second largest in Sicily), then if you feel like a short hope there Scoglietti very good for eating fish (in between Marina is a nice smallish anchor area called Punto Bracetto) after is Licata (and its large marina) then you have San Leonne, Sciaccia and after Sci you can head straight to the Egadi.Thanks. We were in the Vieux Port in Menton last week for the first time. Lovely place. I have often thought about overwintering my boat in Italy hopefully to take advantage of cheaper maintenance costs compared to SoF. Assuming you need work done over winter on your boat how do you choose a competent marina in Italy who can provide the services you need?We are flying out to Nice on Tuesday 18th August and then moving to Italy from Menton on Wednesday.
We are heading up the Italian coast after looking at the numbers in France and now thinking of leaving the boat over winter in Italy, we have a car down there to come back and may have to go via Germany and then non stop to the tunnel as I think we avoid the quarantine if we don't get out of the car in France?
We were going to do France but due to the numbers and quarantine think Italy will be better and now after the comments above sound like a good idea. I think we will get as far as Livorno just past Pisa and then winter in Genoa.
Thanks for this. Really looking forward to this. There are no boats down here it seems. Today we are literally the only boat in sight I shall contact as you suggested and let you know how goes. After Marzamemi go to Marina di Ragusa very nice modern marina (second largest in Sicily), then if you feel like a short hope there Scoglietti very good for eating fish (in between Marina is a nice smallish anchor area called Punto Bracetto) after is Licata (and its large marina) then you have San Leonne, Sciaccia and after Sci you can head straight to the Egadi.
During my boat search a few years ago, I got in touch with these folks for a potential full refitting of a 175 which was being auctioned by the bankrupcy administrators of LYC (the Ferretti commercial branch). We were in the Vieux Port in Menton last week for the first time. Lovely place.

As you know, eventually I made a different choice, but I was impressed by their competence. They used to take care of commissioning and warranty issues for all new Ferrettis delivered this side of Italy, so chances are that they also commissioned yours.
After the financial meltdown and the LYC bankrupcy, they became independent, but the competence is still there.
I understood from them some details of the 175 (and also the 165 and the 57, which were the other models I was considering) that I don't think any surveyor ever heard of.
I can't tell you anything about costs vs. SoF, though.
But I guess you'd struggle to find any place which is NOT cheaper than SoF...
Alternatively, you can always come back down here.
It's only a 270Nm or so cruise, along some beautiful stretches of coast in both Corsica and Sardinia.
What's there not to like?
Yes Amico have a good rep .Nice marina, Loano.
I'm based in Genoa airport marina normally but we took our boat to Loano (Amico) for works this year.

Hotel with pool , + other facilities etc+ as said living is cheap eg pizza starts at single figures and rarely goes over double .
Best one is - Stella ( which comes from France ) under €5 as opposed to €8 on the CdA .......work that one out ?
Well I think we know the answer
Quoted me just under €2500 inc for Scrub , acid clean , 2 x coats of AF inc something on the sterngear .Anodes at cost .
Which I thought was ok .
They normally have 2/3 “ tiddlers “ out in between the SY s
Doh! Were they? I didn't remember that.Mmm, werent those the people who didnt bother quoting to replace my windows?
BTW great video. The dogs definitely look very happy! Just booked Marina Di Ragusa.A bit OT

Yeah, but you should allocate that amount to holiday cruises, not to boat maintenance. The thought has crossed my mind many times just to come south to Sacirn for the winter but it would probably cost me €20k in fuel alone

I don't need to teach you anything on man math, surely?
The autoroute comes close so from up there from Savona to Ventimiglia you can glimpse them .Do you only eat pizza washed down with Stella? Very British!
Out of interest why did you choose Loano as opposed to any of the other marinas on that stretch like Menton, Imperia, San Remo or Verazze?
