same here - got fed up of ryanair messing me around with refunds so just claimed it back from amex, all done online and the money was back in my account the next day

Just been looking at driving - door to door its ~1300 miles manchester to palma, so realisticly no less than 2 days of travelling, it will be a pain in the backside, but probably worth while. Will give it a couple more weeks and see how things start to pan out before deciding
Yep - I did an epic drive back from Sant Carles (during the running of this thread in fact)
1200 miles from Sant Carles to Torquay through the tunnel - non stop took 20 hours but you would then have a sea crossing (Barcelona?)

Yes, the Barcelona to palma ferry, it takes 7.5 hours.

Not too windy ?

I’ve got a washer to plumb in and a plancher to install then we are fit to go !
Windy forecast tomorrow and then back to epic.
Good luck with the works. Just wasted most of today waiting for a guy to fit fibre to our apartment for him to arrive 3 1/2 hours late and then say he can’t fit it due to technical reasons. I am absolutely fissing!

I am not a conspiracy theorist etc but things at the moment do honestly make me wonder.

Foreign office advice not to travel. Quarantine for us returning - but our rates are hi, the lockdown in practical terms now seems over.

By almost all measures we are at less risk in almost any EU country except Sweden and yet they want us here. It really is very controlling and comes across as a govt desperate to control the people. Rather like china.

I can fully understand why other may not want us - but that does not seem the current issue
the whole policy is ridiculous and I totally agree with you. It is there to scare people in the UK so they do not go abroad and I suspect also a economic weapon in Boris' real passion - his quest to be the hero who took us out of the EU. Frankly I think unenforceable and for the first time ever I agree with Michael O'Leary. the sad thing is that most tourist spots in the UK don't want tourists - see the latest nonsense from Cornwall - so in effect the government is trying to stop you going abroad and the English, Scots, Welsh are trying to stop you going on holiday within your own country. Couldn't make it up. We are in Italy which seems to actually want people to come regardless and I will take my chances on quarantining upon return.

You would be sat on your boat now if jumped in a car on Monday .

Todays UK death toll 184 , + 1150 new cases known .
Talking today deaths 34, new cases 210 in Italy .
Hovering on zero deaths / day since June and today 18 new cases or so in Switzerland.
The U.K. is struggling with social distancing imho never really locked down properly in the first place with all the “exercising “ , sun bathing in parks , beach trips , civil unrest , queues outside Mc Donald’s + Primark + Nike shops , raves with 1000,s turning up etc etc etc .

It’s the airport experience not the EU experience that Boris et al wants to squash.
Interesting to see by mid July , the effect of the disease rates in Germany .
Monday 12500 flew into the Balerics from Germany .....just one day !
It’s the whole crowd gathering thing that a bunch of 18-25 year olds bombing out Benidorm and it’s caravans .
Quarantine by us on rtn is to stop them going .by air .....for now until we understand the transmission rates a bit more .
lets face it UK is struggling to get the numbers down as it is .

As far as driving .....it’s not .been broadcast because let’s face it theses days it’s not PC to be seen as elitist ....you know Villa , Chateau, Chalet and lets be fair Med yacht owners ....“it’s alright for them “ but what about Marcus Rashfords kinda family + the other 1.4 million kids on free school dinners .Add in the extra 6 Million unemployed and so on ?
Give you a flavour of the cars heading off yesterday at the Chunnel.....no hotels open etc .

Remember “we are ALL in this together” I seem to recall a previous Tory PM spouting:)

Until 30 June then 19 routs open to selected areas then 15 July all open but they won’t say as yet if uk is included. This government keeps changing and is going through a massive crisis of corruption and coverup due to the assassination of the reporter who was blown up in her car. There seems to be many of the current MP‘s falling like cards. It’s a real problem here right now.

I know, seems a bit of a mess out there at the moment following that tragic event. Thankfully he keeps well away from politics, he has recently renovated his property and has no intention to return to the UK with his wife and our two granddaughters. We shall pop over hopefully later this year to visit. Long term we were considering whether or not to move the boat out there for a couple of years.

Lets hope we only need to batten down the hatches until 5 July, otherwise its a 100 euro note in our new UK passports as we pass through customs at Bilbao ferry port..…. what are the jails like in Bilbao?
We live in Palma full time, and I can't lie, it's nice having the city to ourselves, if a little eerie ...

It’s windy EVERYWHERE except St Clair

We love St Clair, but tend to stay at Pramosquier which is possibly even better at being sheltered from the typical winds. Was supposed to be there in May, but had to cancel. Now hoping to go end October.

Its blatant politics. Apparently, the idea of a quarantine played well to the focus groups used by the Tory spin machine and of course it's announcement was a timely diversion from the Domnishambles fiasco. It also makes good optics for the UK govt because it suggests that foreign countries have more Covid infections than the UK. The fact that it continues the financial pain for the travel and tourism industries and screws up our holiday plans is just collateral damage in the game of politics

I'm sure you won't have a problem in Spain, John.
Brittany Ferries getting you there in the first place will be the challenge.
I came back in the height of the lock down.
We didn't get stopped on any of the main roads.
The only time we were stopped was when we left SC - less than a mile from the marina.
The local police had the whole of SC road blocked off.
You know the town - 5 roads in and out - all blocked.
I thought we would be able to escape down the Delta Road from the marina but that was blocked as well.
So we just went up to the road block on the main road in/out.
It was about 03:00 in the morning and the local police were very helpful.
We showed our polite letter from the UK Foreign Office and they let us pass.
There will be none of that now in SC - I'm sure the town is open.

And I really think you will have no trouble on the usual main road across Spain.
Just watch out for the bandits as usual.
