But once the sails are you, they are up for hours. You don't sit on the throne all day do you?You take a dump far more often than you hoist your sails!

Good point well made. But once the sails are you, they are up for hours. You don't sit on the throne all day do you?![]()
On the boat, not so. I quite often go sailing without taking a dump, and in any case, hoist the sails at least once a day. Though I’m not sure why I’m telling you this, of if you really need to knowYou take a dump far more often than you hoist your sails!
5. No more bad smells.Yes please, it’s useful to know.
1. We don't get bad smells.5. No more bad smells.
6. Much better for the marine environment
7. Much easier to use for landlubbers and less intimidating to them; economy of instruction time.
8. Much more reliable and robust.
I'm confused, isn't a full turd easier to spot and swim around than a finely chopped mush of turd? But sending full size turds and full size bits of paper out to sea is antisocial.
5k for a bog? That’s 70% of a mainsail. I have now consulted Mrs C, she’d prefer to have new sails.Good point well made.
There are plenty of things I’d depriioritise before the loo though even if not the sails.
When looking for a new boat a £5k allowance for refit was made on every non tecma boat.
Anyone who doesn’t get that hasn’t had one.
Well that's it then, no need for further discussion!5k for a bog? That’s 70% of a mainsail. I have now consulted Mrs C, she’d prefer to have new sails.
"2. Same impact on the environment as your electric bog." No indeed -- maceration makes a huge difference on how waste is broken down in the marine environment.1. We don't get bad smells.
2. Same impact on the environment as your electric bog.
3. Landlubbers on our boat have bigger muscles and get a work out.
4. Far, far more reliable and robust. No electricity needed
A Tecma or Planus isn't £5K, they are about £1k each. Elessars £5k figure would be for multiple bogs, including fitting and an overhaul of the plumbing, i guess.5k for a bog? That’s 70% of a mainsail. I have now consulted Mrs C, she’d prefer to have new sails.
Lavac. Same cost as a Jabsco manual. Infinitely more robust."2. Same impact on the environment as your electric bog." No indeed -- maceration makes a huge difference on how waste is broken down in the marine environment.
"4. Far, far more reliable and robust. No electricity needed" Not a Jabsco manual flimsy toy-like toilet. Maybe if you have a Crittendon-Wilcox Skipper, or something like that. But even that is not more reliable than a Tecma or Planus.
And if you lose electrical power on board, you've got much bigger problems than flushing the toilet.
I do appreciate that this electric bog thing is a class issue. Us steerage class raggies cannot help our humble birth you know. We have to swim in God’s salt bath to get clean, and pump our own sh1te. We save money on diesel too. It’s a tough life.A Tecma or Planus isn't £5K, they are about £1k each. You rag and stick merchants need to appreciate that us posh motorboat owners have multiple heads, all with nice electric bogs, proper showers, heated towel rails, hair dryers and some even have bidets (we don't have a bidet, but the shower is close enough, you just have to be careful with the aim)![]()

The macerator pump in our forward cabin en-suite (one of our multiple heads) is many years old and still works fine (does sound a bit like a cement mixer though). The macerator in our day heads (another one of our multiple heads) did have to be replaced, because some idiot fitted the seal that keeps the liquidised turds out of the motor the wrong way round. It seems electric motors and macerated turds are not compatible. That said, having multiple heads, we're not in the shit if one packs upLavac. Same cost as a Jabsco manual. Infinitely more robust.
Total power loss is one thing. Motor failure, macerator failure are two things you don't have with a manual pump.

Our boat had the lecky bogs removed by the previous owner. Something I am quite happy about. The problem was he fitted Jabsco manual junk.now well and truely binned.A Tecma or Planus isn't £5K, they are about £1k each. Well, I hadn't said anything against Lavac. Another perfectly reasonable solution, if eccentrically quirky.Lavac. Same cost as a Jabsco manual. Infinitely more robust.

Do you think a macerator pump is the only thing that chews up Sh1t? A diaphragm pump is very capable, especially when flushed at high velocity by a high performance manual pump. At the end of the day, whether the shit is big lumps or small lumps. The environment has still recieved the same volume of shit![]()
The Lavac can have manual and electric pumps in series.Reading this thread shows how opinions differ on whats best. Do any of these electric toilets have manual as well?
Im going to ruin it now by mentioning the baby blake.. but there is a relevance as the blake can now be electrified while still retaining its manual function , but at an eye watering price..
