This new format is lousy! I thought ipc didn't have money to burn?

i also find it much more difficult to read and i'm relatively young. It wastes so much space that i'm scrolling a lot more as well.

Have to say i found the old version one of the best on the internet, so it is such a shame to go backwards on the usability front.

S**t .... what a frigging waste of time it is to learn a new way round a site when changes like this happen! WHY IS THE FONT SO FEINT AND DIFFICULT TO READ!!
I HAVN'T READ THE CONFIRMED REASON FOR THIS... WHAT IS IT?

Yes, it would have been nice if we'd been asked if we liked the proposed "improvements"...or told the reasons for doing it, if they have any basis. It's not too late, if any IPC staff are reading this!!! (I doubt they are...they'd want time-and-a-half, plus a Specsavers voucher ;))

Well, I for one like it.

I can read it just fine thank you - no need to write in bold thank you. Perhaps you should investigate a sight checkup.

It's not just a skin - it's a new version of vBulletin. It works much better for me - and is capacble of taking advantage of modern browsers. I'm enjoying the new features as well as the new layout. :p

+1 from me

Regards

Ian

ive worked it out, the font has more spaced out letters so the brain doesnt recognise the shape as quickly or easily.

I suspect I am going to have to say this more than once, but here goes for the first time.....

Don't like the font - then change it!

Don't like the colours - then change them!

Instead of moaning:

1. Log in
2. Click on "My Profile" on the top right
3. Click on the "Customise my profile" tab at the top right
4. Choose any colours and font you want
5. Stop moaning about a free resource

That changes the font and colour in YOUR profile, if someone views it. It changes nothing else at all. I've said this over and over again this evening! :p

I quite like the new format. The old format (still used on cruisersforum) looks very clunky by comparison. As far as I can see all the functionality of the old format is still there but I haven't yet found any startling new features, apart from indistinguishable smileys.

I don't have any problem with the text. Not sure if my browsers are displaying it differently to other people, but it's fine in Chrome on Linux and Safari in OS X and iPad.

I don't like the thread list though - it's not easy to tell which threads have new posts in. Instead of being obviously bold or not-bold, you have to distinguish between two very similar icons. Actually four very similar icons, because for each state there is also a "hot" and not-"hot" version, which is completely pointless yet dominates the display. This at least is fixable - even if it's not explicitly configurable, an admin could go and monkey-patch the image files with a better set.

This new format is lousy.

+100

Especially the following:
1) Colour scheme -- too pastel with lack of contrast and washed-out look: Not good, in fact very bad.
2) Page numbers at bottom right of a thread that extends beyond one page are not sufficiently distinguished from the other clutter.
3) Signatures not adequately demarcated/differentiated from the text of the post.
4) Any given post occupies too much space vertically.
5) Jump to last read post should not be grouped with the other selectors over on the right but rather left where it was before. It doesn't "group" well, functionally, with the other selectors over on the right.
6) Posters name not sufficiently highlighted. It should stand out from the other framing and decorative sugar around it.
7) And I could go on, and on, and on.

But suffice it to say that, had one of my designers produced anything like that for any of the industrial installations my group delivered, he'd be lucky if he or she was not sacked instantly. There is no excuse for poor Human Interface design.

Just took a quick glance at my shelf here in the study: User Interface Design by Thimbleby (a bit dated, but the principles are still very valid) would be a good place to start the re-education of the IPC designer responsible for this mess. And I mean restart TODAY.

Well I think it's lousy too; much harder to read and wastes loads of space.

I've also found it impossible to paste image URL's from photobucket successfully today, but maybe that's me.

Unless there was a good reason like support, this was indeed change for the sake of it; if support was the reason, not enough homework was done or surely there would be something better available.

I can paste in images from Photobucket but i cannot use the thumbnails

No I did not actually want to quote Rossynant it just seemed to be the only way to post.???
I habitually check YBW first thing in the morning ie late evening UK.
I like to check what I posted the day before in case of any differences of opinion (boo boo on my part)
I found this morning a button along the lines of find posts. "good says I" however it stated with post no 1 many years ago. No way to select last page so gave up with waiting for reload of all of 20 pages one at a time.
Am I missing something on finding most recent posts.
No obviously with a signature like "olewill" I do not like change. Like another poster I may well pass away of old age before mastering new format. I never really mastered the old. boo hoo olewill
Now the post has turned up on Scuttlebut when I thought it was going to PBO anguish!!!!

the reality is, the mods don't read all the threads, so unless you post in the approved thread in the feedback forum, the mods may never see this thread. Post in the thread they will look at
