This is a much better report Re lotto win

Great honesty.

New X-Yacht or Dehler 40ft
911
Charters in Carib etc,
a new laptop for the Mrs.
and a bit of wildlife charity.

Chuffed for them.

Sounds like a well deserved win, best of luck to them and hope it brings them everything they would want
p.s. Next time tell them mine's a pint, keep it in the barrel for now, like, y'know

so come on then you lot - six mil in the bank ...what would you do. These days its not a fantasy island amount of money but it's plenty to change your life and for those dearest.

I would:
sort out the liveaboard dream.
Pay off mortgages for me and family and best mates to ensure future security.
set aside enough to buy dream home at some time in the future
Give £1m to my favourite charity
Go sailing and worry about the rest when I got back. (if :D)

Exactly what we have now, get the electric winches, watermaker, junk the Webasto and get a Cruise Air 12000BTu Air Con/Heating, Windscreen and Bimini.
Let the house, sell the rest of it, pay the kids mortgages, and offski before the end of the month. Sorted.

Evening race night yesterday & they stood the bar all evening.

I knew a man that won a lot on the pools. He used to go the British Legion, and it was drinks on him for everybody for three nights. Then some people started saying he was "getting flash" throwing his money around, so he stopped buying drinks for everybody, and then they called him tight. In the end he gave up and left the BL, and his "friends"

Why let the house and worry about tenants, they don't need any more money? BTW they did not have any kids

I will tell you what I probably wouldn't do... and that's go public!

That was my initial thought until I was told that apparently if you don't, Camalot will give you the cheque and leave you to it and all the grief should someone leak the info which no doubt would happen, however if you do opt for publicity they have a whole package ready to go to deal with all sorts of eventualities from the inevitable cold calls, short term management of winnings and people to offer all sorts of advice. Hearing that I re-thought my outlook. Knowing Richard & Cathy I don't imagine for one second they didn't think long and hard about that.

I would continue what I already do which is try to look after the Orwell and the banks thereof with the rights of way around the dock. What I am fighting now is taking all my time. Basically the ABP dredger is clearing the channel but dumping the spoil back into the river making it shallower elsewhere and of course SYH is dumping spoil into the river too. Incidentally SYH is built on land belonging to Ipswich Borough Council and they don't know it yet. The New Cut, where pleasure boats used to opperate from before it was unlawfully narrowed is to be made even narrower to enable the Island Site to become a private living compound. The rights of way around the dock need a lawyer to help me out the strengthening of the river bank by Fox's needs stopping too if we are to keep a river fit for all to sail in without getting in each others way. I have a number of judicial reviews coming to court soon and boy could I use some legal help or even better help from enthusiastic sailors interested in saving our river and its wild life. The snags? Well it will take over your life and leave you skint all the time. You will enjoy the river though as so will those who follow in your footsteps.

I certainly wouldn't go public. About half a dozen people would know about it in detail, beyond the "we had a bit of luck on the lottery" sort of thing, and every single one of them is utterly trustworthy

First thing I'd do is go and buy several brand new houses off plan and when they're built hand them over to a reputable management company to rent out. That's the income and capital protection sorted out

Then it'd be either buy a suitable older s/h 33' to 36' boat and re-fit to our requirements or have something built from scratch 'cos try as I might I can't summon up much enthusiasm for the current new yachts out there (and I've been merrily playing "fantasy yacht buyer" for a couple of hours now!!!).
