my eldest is doing a challenge for Scouts that involves camping out under canvas at least one night /month for a year.

trying to camp in as many different places as he can last night he planned to camp on the grass next to the YC. i went over to help him pitch the tent etc a big squall ripped the small tent out of our hands and it sailed across into the harbour /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif(We managed to recover it with the dinghy.)

Plan B now the dinghys in the water how about rigging the boom tent on the boat and kipping under that out on the swinging mooring? great fun trying to rig it in the wind but eventually succeeded. The noise generated by a boom tent in a near gale is quite amazing but he stayed fairly dry while I kipped slightly better in the cabin.

One part of his challenge is to camp as close to sea level as possible.I wish I had got a picture of his tent sailing across the bay ,(too busy rowing at the time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

So, you are breeding another generation of potty people who stay out in all weathers? Irresponsible you are. Why cant you let him kick the crap out of the local recreation facilities like all the rest of his contemporaries? How is he going to get an ASBO doing this sort of stuff? You are letting the country down by not wasting his education, it'll ruin the statistics. I note he is not swigging 1080 Cider either, and why isn't he looking sullen? Its far better for his development for you to absent yourself and not pay the CSA. Much more likely to bring him into the mainstream if you ask me.

This is what it could all lead to , given the proper encouragement.....
