There was this bloke who

Who Had just brought his brand new dream car,a Mercedes soft top.
He was a flash git so decided to take in into work to show it off to his colleges
Just as he parked out side the building and opened the door to get out ,a lorry hurtled by taking the whole door off !!
He was on the Mobil in an instant to the police .
Then he went crazy at the lorry driver raging about his car .
The police got there within 5 minutes and tried to calm the man down .
He wouldn't listen and kept saying my car my brand new car ,the police officer tried again to calm him down by saying ,look you can get it repaired ,but it will never be the same look at my car look what he's done .
The officer then said ,don't you think your being a bit materialistic sir and then pointed to the mans side
When he looked down he could see his whole arm had been ripped off from the shoulder .
With a look of shear disbelieve he shouted oh my god where's my Rolex.

That's kinda like another story I heard which might strike a chord here.

Young guy - John - quite gifted in the art of electronics/software - but whose real passion was for messing about in boats and fishing with his kids. He used to work for a few months to get some money together, then take a few months off and spend the time on the water. He was down in the marina one day, planning to head off in his trusty old craft when he noticed a beautiful big new boat berthed close by -so he went down for a look. The owner of the new boat appeared - and he happed to be an older acquantance and ex colleague of Johns - less brilliant - but - who had a strong entrepeneurial streak.

"hey" said John -"that's a nice new boat you go there" - " you've obviously been doing well!".

"Hey John" the other guy " yeah things have been great - I just sold my old company and bought a boat. You know John - you could do the same if you stopped farting around for while and got your act together"

"Oh really" said John - " what do you mean"

"well" - the other guy said " you're pretty clever - and you're full of ideas. If you applied yourself for a while, and took a bit of help - you could do the same"

"Ah well " said John "why would I do it ? What would I get for it ?"

"just think" the other guy said " you just take one of your ideas - and turn it into a great product - then you could make millions"

"So how would I do it then " - asked John " how would it work ?"

"Well "- said the rich guy " you need an idea - but you have lots of those. then you need a business partner - and that could me me - so we're already off to a good start"

"Then what ? " asked John.

"then we need to get backing - we need to raise enough money to get us working on the idea - enough to keep us going for - say three years before we earn anything. Now don't get me wrong - these three years would be hard - you'd have to work hard - long hours - no skipping off - to get something to market. Hopefully after three yeras we could begin selling something"

"Ok" said John " so after three years we're all set up then ?"

"Oh no - it isn't as easy as that - After three years we'd be able to start selling. After three years we'd have something to sell. Then you'd need to get more involved in the management of the company for a few years - but you'll have to get a sales team together and get out there and sell man! It won't be easy - but hell it'll be worth it (they all develop americanisms!) It'll be 2 to 3 more years of hard graft - lot of time on the road - mightn't get home too much - but things will start to really happen if you put yourself right into it."

"Ok" - said John " so it's 6 years of hard work - then we're set up ?"

"Well - not quite - but we're nearly there. When you've got a product on the market and you're selling - then you need to start doing two things in parallel - you need to start working on the second product. This is harder then the first time - because you've got to keep the business running. In parallel then you need to be out looking for a buyer for the company ?"

"How long does this take ?"

"Well - that depends - it can be quick if you're lucky - but it'll depend on the amound if effort you put into it - and on the market. You don't have any control over that. Stressful time this - but it's really worth it"

"So we're talking - what a year or two to sell the company - right ?"

"Yeah if we're lucky - but it's worth it all" - he was interrupted by a little beep from his watch " Oh excuse me John - gotta take my medication" - pops 2 little pills in his mouth " Gotta keep the old ticker right!"

"Anyway - John - after that you're a free man - you can buy yourself a nice boat - and head off fishing any time you like - you wont have to answer to anybody"

"Oh right" - said John " except that - I already have a nice boat - and I'm just about to go fishing now!"

And that, my friends, is pretty much why I'm a regular on this forum asking you questions about DIY maintenance on my 20+ y/old Princess!!!
