While being good maritime samaritan and pulling titchy boat off windward shore, gave the old girl a bit of reverse throttle.Too much it appears,on arriving back at berth we are minus a trim tab.
Need to replace is it made of stainless or just aluminium./forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Re: Most likely stainless (NM)

O yes.piece of stainless plate 22 x 16 inches.
don,t suppose any has any clue as to how the thing was attached to transom.Seems to be some sort of strip fixed to hull, but my underwater groping has failed to reveal anything that seems to able to hold it to hull and allow it to hinge up and down?

Re: Most likely stainless (NM)

Are you sure your boat had trim tabs in the first place. My P33 never had any. Except stationary ones. Cant remember what they were made of, but quite thick I think. Whats the one on the other side look like?? Or is that a dumb question!!

I know we all like to think of ourselves as the good samaritans but 3 times I have pulled people off of banks mud etc and each time I lose something off of my own boat, and most people I speak to find the same,of course if the vessel in trouble is in a dangerous situation then sod a piece of trim tab or rail etc, but I do tend to think twice now and hope someone else assists first, I even recently read about a boat assisting a yachty successfully pulled him clear from a bank and off he went, the motor boat reversed over a submerged rock, holed his boat and had to be rescued by the life boat.Maybe a code where if pulling someone out of trouble the distressed vessel to meet any damage that may or maynot occur to helping craft. Food for thought.

My Bennett tabs are about 20" x 12" and are on a proper hinge, with a right angle renforcing strip across it about 3" in. If your quick you can have a look at mine but it's due back in the water in the next day or so as it's shiney new props are on.
PM me if you want a look.

Re: Most likely stainless (NM)

The trim tabs attached to a rams.Well one of em still is.Will have to go down at low tide and have a proper look.
Whizzed across to MDL and had a look at boats on hard(wore overalls and walked in like i owned the place)but only P33 there had some sort of fixed trim tab and was on shafts anyway.
End of other (still attached) trim tab seems to fit into a slot in bit screwed to hull,no hinge to be seen.

Have spoken to local ship repair yard man.He is going to cut me nice bit of 1/8 th stainless plate. He reckons it needs some sort of L shaped kink down one side to hold it it position in hull slot thingy.
