The Yorkshire Ripper - sighted off Samson\'s Bay
Following on from AlistarR's confession, it reminded me of a time when as a teenager I used to water ski with mates around Samson's Bay.
It was the mid-70's and the Yorkshire Ripper was yet to be apprehended. In amongst our merry troop was a girl called....err, no...no names! She had a great pair of snorkers and looked great in a wetsuit but was completely lacking in the brains dept.
There was a large-ish yacht moored off the bay and this young lady was convinced that the person she had seen clambering around the deck was indeed the Yorkshire Ripper.
It was only a short time after she had made a phone call from a phone box near the beach that the UN turned up - well it looked like a task-force anyway, with fast partol boats, police aplenty, the odd helicopter or two etc. etc.
They hoiked this hapless chap off his yacht and interrogated him for a day before releasing him.
We just had to apologise and we turned up by his yacht in a little red speed-boat and this young lady delivered her apology. Luckily, he thought it was hilarious and invited us all aboard for drinks.
I wonder where he is now??...
