My sister in law and brother in law looked at a boat yesterday with a view to us buying jointly.
They reported back that there were two things on it that SiL thought were great reasons for having it and my wife agrees. One is it has aircon which I agree is nice to have, the other is behind this panel in the en-suite shower room. Can you guess what it is?

Do women like washing machines? Mrs C finds them a necessary evil. She does like any clever storage solution though, and cannot resist looking in cupboards.

Yes, it’s a washing machine. In fact a washer/ drier.




They were somewhat surprised to find it there but it is very clever use of space.
I must admit it’s was never high on my list of priorities but herself now says it was one of the things that pushed her towards a Broom 42 over a 38 when we were looking at them - the one we saw in Amsterdam had one in the cupboard just before the main cabin and I have seen another one on a site where they have a washer and a drier stacked on top of each other.
Overall very impressed with the Linssen. This one is 13 years old but is in immaculate condition.
The only slight thing that is putting us off a bit is the Volvopenta D3 engine as there are a lot of horror stories about them. This one looks like new with no evidence of major part replacement and has been regularly serviced. Some older ones have Mercury engines and the latest (2022 on) have Yanmar but they are out of our price range ( £500k+)

Most marinas around here have laundry facilities, it's not cropped up as a subject of discussion other than to question do we really need one.

However! Friends we cruise with do have a laundry on their boat plus a big solar panel and storage batteries, they come to the boat to do their laundry as it saves having to buy electricity from the house supply, now that reasoning made my wife's ears perk up Their boat is a couple of meters longer and a bit broader than ours with a completely different layout inside, and no internal helm.

When we went to Channel Islands and Brittany last year we hadn’t anticipated needing to do laundry but we got stuck in Granville for a week with a broken engine so had to make use of the marina facilities. Her ladyship refused “to have my knickers hanging from the radar mast to dry” so went off to buy some more. While doing that she somehow managed to buy several T-shirts, paints of shorts, etc.

If I was cruising round the world, living on the hook and having to take a dinghy ashore to do washing then I’d understand the attraction. As a holiday boat, hopping from marina to marina / harbour to harbour not so much.

For the cost of a washing machine, or more importantly the extra boat to accommodate a washing machine (and its running costs) you can buy a lot of spare pants and socks!
