Does anyone know what is going on with The Lightship? I hear it is going to be turned into a "Yacht Club" with free membership for berth holders. Have Landers who ran it last year pulled out or is it just re branding?

Something needs to be done about it.

I went in there with a couple of friends a year back and had the worst service ever!

We went in to bar at about 8pm on a Sunday and asked if we could eat. They said that there was bit of a wait. Not a problem.

At about 9.30 they came across and apologised for the wait and said that we could have complimenty puddings. My mate didn't want one, I said I would and could I have his (being a bit greedy). I was told in no uncertain terms that this was out of the question. Oh well.

At 10.15pm they came though with our meals. Just before we had finished our main course they brought our puddings, by this time it was 10.30. The manager at this point comes across and asks us to leave as it is a Sunday and they are shutting.

It was totally hilarious, there was the manager telling us they were shut with us still eating our main course and our pudding sitting on the table.

Needless to say I didn't leave a tip! – and not been back since

I think it was a victim of it's own success with Landers.

When it was the Sunsail club it seemed to be "run" by a couple of Gosport's "friendlier" barmaids who were either sat at a table eating their own food whilst enjoying a fag or chatting up the young Yottie type - if you were lucky they might begrudgingly get up and serve you a sour pint.

Landers then took it over and I used it quite a bit during the summer of the Athens olympics. Although busy, the service and standard was good.

Last summer it seemed to decline and I noticed the delays and shortcomings, although it did seem to be happening to other people and not to me.

The kitchen facilities are limited and I think they may have over stretched themselves.

yes I agree. I had many good meals in there last year but noticed when it became busy the service became very slow and poor - to the point of staff being rude on occasions. Mind you, it must have been an awful place to work particularly when there was a bit of swell coming into the harbour. The final straw for me was when they took the excellent chilli off the menu!!
let's hope the new people (assuming it's not Landers) make a success of it. Gosport is not exactly blessed with good places to eat (other than Landers itself)
