One of them is that i get to see ( and photograph ) a lot of things that the rest of the world doesn't .... :)

0200 the other night ... just thought you might like to see .

Photo hasn't been edited at all , it was a fairly long exposure , but the sky was actually like that.

If you're working tonight, you will see a nice red sky to the west because Eel Pie Island has a fire!

So i see / hear ....

2 lifeboats have just gone downstream to evacuate 25 people at the request of the fire brigade , the Fire Dart is on the way up from Lambeth and the police chopper is overhead.

Gonna be an interesting night , can't smell burning yet ...

P.S. Perfectly ok for forumites to pop in and say hi ;)

Under control so far but still evacuated until they ensue no more gas bottles.

They chucked their pump hoses onto a yard slip and wondered why they were pumping mud after the tide went out.

I suspect that tides are not something the average Firefighter is taught to consider under usual circumstances

What went up?

It turns out that the owner and his family are away sailing this weekend which is a relief in many ways but it will be heartbreaking when he gets back.

Yes, it was Clive's. Trevor's and either side seem fine.

I think it may be time for the island (and all the others on the Thames) to have their own contingency plans to put in place in the event of a fire.
